I just got the space hulk box today. I admit to being a bit of a noob, having never played hulk before, but it seems like the odds are stack sorely against the marines in pretty much every mission. We played all the rules correctly, maybe there are some tactics we're missing out on?

Yes, and its more fun that way. The odds are stacked against the SM player.
Ive won almost all the missions with termies by the seat of my pants, and knowing that the termies are the underdogs just makes the win that much more fun.
Its all i guess how you look at it, sure the Stealers win alot, but its luck, tactics, hard work and out and out balls that wins for the Termies, and thats how the game has always been depicted. Your outnumberd, outflanked, time limited, and have a snowballs chance in Heck to win in CC. but maybe, just maybe you can pull out the win !

What he said.
With the addition that it takes a bit of practice to get some of the not-so-obvious tactics down. Its possible to win any mission with the termies, but somedays the dice are just against you.

Agreed, Best advice is:
Dont rush: You will over extend your force.
Cover your back: even if it means slow movement never leave your rear exposed!
Keep some CP's in reserve.....always!
If you need to go around a blind corner use flamers to clear the way and block the area so your marines can get in position for a quick push

It' really a matter of tactis,
I'm not so good at tactics myself, while one of my friend has a real strategic mind. I never won against him. My poor genestealers...

honestly, i find sticking the meaty CC guys at the back. they will die! but if you put them into their overwatch mode theyll be able to mash a 'stealer or two before you go down. that said one game i had my termies moving down a crridor with lightning claws at the back, and i got swarmed... every marine died! it was horrible!!!

I only play 1st edition but there's a knack to using the Marines. You need to moven fairly swiftly through the Hulk to stand a chance of winning. If you get bogged down and the Genestealers start to pile up you'll never get to the objective because you'll be spending most of the game holding the 'stealers off and that never lasts forever. On the other hand rushing can be equally disasterous, you have to have all the Marines covering each other so think about using the Marines in the most effective way to guard as much of the map as possible.
