What exactly is your question?

The question is what can you acccomplish in 45 mins. I thought that was pretty clear.

In gaming terms, try games of Combat Patrol, which is 400pts a side, minimum of 1 troop choice on a 4' by 4' board. Player who captures the most table quarters wins. Games normally last no longer than 40 mins and are ideal for beginners with small armies.

In painting terms, it's just a question of what you can get done in the time. Try to set yourself a goal for each lunchtime like we're going to get the basecoats done on five miniatures. Or try a speed painting competition once in a while i.e. everybody tries to paint a single miniature to the highest standard in the available time.

You could also give one week over to a modelling project and try to make and finish some model bunkers, barricades, or defence lines.

Hope this helps

I agree with Flashman about combat patrol as far as keeping it to 40k. GW makes some really good specialist games as well, that don't take that long to set-up or play.

I have heard that painting in short sessions helps prevent you from overhandling the model and can result in a better overall paintjob.

Coz,
I help/run a warhammer schools game club at the school the wife is a teacher at.

45min is a fair bit of time if you set out clear goals from the start , but most of it will require a decent amount of prep work.

As for games , simple "squad action" events work well for building up rule knowledge and game skills

Check out the warhammer schools leauge , loads of resources there.

Kill-team is also an option, but apart from that I'd go with what Flashman said.

BTW, Welcome to Dakka, mate!

I do combat patrol with a map. We all have counters, and are trying to capture on and anothers home continents. We do this with combat patrol, and sometimes have themed games outside of school, the most recent one being a 22,000pts apocalypse game. Bear in mind, we're all advanced gamers.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."
