Dawn of War Tactics
I’m getting DOW this weekend (DOW 2 doesn’t work on my laptop). I wanted to ask Dakka what there favourite tactics and armies are.
This is my killy army of death:
4x Firedragons, 6x Banshee squads, all in Eldar transports (Falcons?), you can fit two banshee squads in one falcon.
So you get close to a base and use the turbo-jump thing to get right inside. The banshee’s take all the hits from turrets and they kill infantry, then the Firedragons (Which are surrounded by swarms of banshees) take down buildings and vehicles.
Most of the transports die when you take down the first base, so you heal and just run them into a second. Can kill like 3, 4 bases.

You realise that any good player will use melee walkers? Fire Dragons don't do gak in melee, and artillery completely ruin infantry.
Ah, Basilisk spam... how I miss thee.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

I always thought DoW was less about choosing the ultimate unbeatable army of death and more about rapidly taking and holding and the strategic points (depending on the type of game you're playing of course).
In that case, I was always one for grabbing and holding for the strategic points with scouts/boyz/guardians etc. whilst my opponent was desperately trying to base build and marshall their uber death army. Not much good if you don't have the resource to produce it.
Then you harrass the enemy with scouting units until a simple mixed force of heavier infantry and the first vehicle you get rolls over them (dreads, killer kans, wraithlords). Easy peasy.

First build up base defences and stay in your base until you have all upgrades... Build turrets at the enterence to your base and build mines.... Capture 3 strategic points and upgrade them fully.... Then when you have all units available to you capture a relic and build you ultimite vehicle.... AND DESTROY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A favorite, (Yet by no means competitive) tactic of mine is an Ork/Grot Rush.
Have your grots build up a WAAGH! Banner (Reinforce them) whilst da boyz should go capture the strategic points.
Immediately build a 2nd squad of Boyz and more Grots (Like, 2 Grot Squads and 2-3 Boyz Squads)
From there, reinforce your squads whilst moving them into position.
If your opponent doesn't have an HQ, you should be fine.
Good hunting!

I just p/u DoW 1 as well!
What're some good tactics for Tau?
I usually run 2 squads of Firewarriors, 2-3 Crisis Suits, 2 Broadsides. I'm still getting the hand on how to increase the troop cap but this seems to be the most I can field.
I do pretty well in a one-on-one fight, but if the enemy has another army on the map, it takes me FOREVER to try and eliminate that second one...if my men don't get slaughtered first.

Two FW squads? I always use at least 6. You want to kill things before they can reach you, and Hammerheads are very useful for eliminating walkers that get close.

I remember, before it was patched, that I Vespid rushed one of my friends as soon as I possibly could, rended whatever building he had, sonic waved his scouts around, and generally just dicked around punching stuff until I could stuff kroot squads down his throat. Beat him in a couple of minutes without allowing him to build up anything past a couple of scout squads.
I didn't do it again, but damn was it funny.
