i was thinking of getting into war of the ring but i really like both the rangers of middle earth and the gondor army. could i have the gondor be the main structure of the army and have ranger allies? Also how many troops do i need to play a small game. Could i get a box of rangers and a box of gondor and battle them against each other with a willing helper?

i can't think of a good one............

About allying: Rangers and Gondor are both part of the same army (Gondor & Armor) in War of the Ring. No need to make an alliance.

About buying one box of each and playing them against eachother: You could do it, but you're looking at a 80-90 point game with at most three units on each side.

If trying to keep small scale, standard Lord of the Rings might be best. War of the Ring focuses on taking lots of models, sometimes multiple boxes in a single unit.
