One of the big changes in the Tyranids with 3rd edition was that now each creature was based on an existing 40k race. Zoanthropes were Elf-based, biovores Ork-bases and hive guard-Marine based (because shoulderpads are genetically transmittable).
But this was before the Tau and Necron Codexes.
Obviously necrons don't give the Tyranids anything but a tummyache but what about Taus?
If they eat them are the nids hungry an hour later?
Is there a new breed of vagina-headed fish nids on the way?
If you were GW what would you give the Nids to represent Tau take-out?
I read this and immediately went somewhere that would have made Slaanesh proud.
I dunno, the Tau don't have any immediately physically beneficial traits. Maybe something to do with synapse, maybe a breed of 'gaunt with a greater range for synapse control?

Tau don't have any presence in the warp. According to lexicanum, synapse is a psychic power. (I wasn't sure, so I went to check somewhere).
Also, Tyranids are the most rapidly evolving race, so the Tau rapid advancement might not mean that much.
Well, the Tau are so culturally bland that their DNA would probably be a good base for experimentation. Or perhaps the Nids could barrage planets with spore mines that drift around boring the population to death.

Subject: Re:So what do you get from eating the Tau?
I'm going with the "They're so bland that you just haven't noticed yet" theory. What gave them gaunts though?
Because if there isn't anything that might be what they get.
from all the hot air the Tau have talking about there so called "Greater Good"
Fart Cannons anyone? s10 d6 wounds no armor saves 6 inch bubble from the model
I wish my lawn was emo...
Then it would cut itself.
In the end, SoB are uppity female canines who enjoy their faith in the emperor so much, I'd say they themselves are no longer truly human. They've given up normal life in exchange to become bolter-bitches.
The only thing they may get is diversity of genomes- because of the number of different races they employ- but really, yeah they don't have much to offer besides raw material, I guess. As the old saying goes- "Everything you can do- I can do better..." The tech- which is the only reason Tau are around- is useless and unimportant to the Tyranids- since they have a biolgical equivalent for the important pieces. Rain guns= Venom Cannons- Battlesuits=Tyranid warriors- The Tau slave phermone=Synapse-Stelth suits=chameloenic chitin, and on and on. Ram material is raw material though so nothing wrong with that...
So your arguement is, that a photon torpedo can destroy things many times its size, so it could destroy the Death Star.......?
Godzilla!
Tau=Manga
Nid=Monster
Manga+Monster=Godzilla.
Fire Breathing Nid Monster from the Sea!
With the Shoulder Pad thing its probably meant to be a manifestation of the Black Carapace which is a genetic part of the marine rather than the shoulder pads itself.
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Next question, what if a Kroot eats a nid then a nid eats that kroot then a plague zombie bites the nid and then a vampire bites the nid and then a werewolf space marine bits the nid?

.... . Oh dear. Good thing the coffee cup was not in my hand or otherwise I would have burned some rather sensitive parts of my anatomy! Naughty Kid_Kyoto!
New breeds? The Ethereals are pheromone producing slave masters so maybe a Tyrant/Warrior with releases scent/spores that affect the preys mind. Making them easier to catch.

I think that eating Tau may cause immunities to some effects of the warp. Also, consumption of Tau and like species (in other galaxies) may cause the shadow in the Warp elovution.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

Yeah- perhaps eating tau or similar species (in other galaxies) give tyrinids the shadow in the warp.

Tau pheromones would likely be rendered pointless by synapse, but maybe it could act as a secondary backup when synapse fails?
Example, nids are attacking. A lucky shot kills the zooanthrope (they're synapse, aren't they? If not, insert suitable unit). The surrounding gaunts loose the guidance of the hive mind and revert to animalistic behaviour. Normally, this is quite bad and rather uncontrollable, often leading to the gaunts being taken out of the fight very quickly. However, pheromones kick in, giving the gaunts an overwhelming urge to move, on mass, towards the producers; probably hive tyrants. They get back in range, the hive mind can reassert control, and the gaunts get sent off to the next desirable location.
But the Ethereal's pheromones don't make the Tau run to the nearest Hive Tyrant (or even to the nearest Ethereal). If it's just taking the ability to manufacture pheromones in general, the Lictors already do that fine.
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
Yeah the Ethereals use it to control the TAU- The Nids' use it to communicate and to mark areas. The TAU aren't "more immune" to problems from the warp- it is just that they have no known psychers so there isn't an easy avenue for the warp creatures to get them- since they don't have warp travel- they only see them when they face Chaos- at least that is waht I know of them- WHile I am an expert on Nid's I really don't know everything about TAU admittedly...
