It's taken 8 years for it to happen but it's finally happened. My rage at having my Tyranid, Chaos and Dark Angel armies stolen in 2001 is finally subsiding. I cant remember the specifics, but the 'Nids and the DA armies were around 2500 points and the Traitors were around 2000. I painted each model like it was going to be my Golden Demon entry, not just the HQ units. Every last 'Gaunt and cultist was pristine and the vehicles and HQs all had some sort of conversion, from the side hatch on my DA land raider being hinged, to Cypher being cut and pinned so it looked like he was diving for cover and his hands rotated 90 degrees inward for that 'Gangsta' look. I kept track of how much I was spending on the hobby over the 3 years it took me to collect and paint all of them, and counting brushes, paints, tools, etc, I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000.00. When my armies got jacked I walked away from the hobby all together, never to return, or so I thought. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my armies, so going out and buying up replacement models and splashing some paint on to get them battle ready would have been blasphemy. An abomination of the foulest kind! I didn't have the patience to start over while staying true to my obsession to have a 'showcase' army. My only option was to walk away and never look back. Time heals all wounds so they say, but it seems to be true in this instance. I'm putting serious thought into reinvesting. Someone has got to fill me in on all that has transpired while I've been adrift in the warp. Since I've been gone the Tau and the Necrons have moved past 'concept' armies briefly hinted at in White Dwarf issues (Kroot sightings in the GW design shop and necro army lists that only show warriors, the lord and scarabs). First question... am I correct in assuming that the rules are in their 4th edition, or have they pushed through yet another? Were there big, fundamental changes from 3rd to 4th like there were when 3rd edition was released (IMHO Genestealer cult armies died with 3rd edition because getting your 'Stealers into melee in 2 turns or less was no longer possible with 3rd edition movement rules.)

Genesteallers are fast now in 5th. All troops get to move 6" in the movement phase, then they can move an additional D6" in the shooting phase but if they do they don't get to shoot (called Running). Then if they have Fleet they can assault as normal (meaning they can move 13-18" into assault). If they don't have Fleet and run they cannot assault. The vehicle damage table has been changed to just one and has basically made mechanized lists the strongest at the moment. Also people seem to spam melta weapons as well. Those are the only two types of lists that people think can win at the moment.

But, you can't consolidate into a new combat anymore.
