Is the book any good?

I'm a big Raven Guard fan, so if it is even just OK, I'll probably pick it up...

Alpharius:

The book really is quite good, despite the Raven Guard's lack of a real spotlight. It's refreshing to have a novel that isn't pewpew multilasers.

Nope!

Spoiler:
Typhus' Death Guard slaughter them, following their ambush, and then destroy the gene-seed to prevent it ever being recovered.

OK, someone bottom line it for me!

I realize the title of the book is CADIAN Blood, but, as a Raven Guard fan, am I only going to be annoyed if I pick this one up?

Can I just say, buy this book because you want to read about Cadians! Forget the Raven Guard.

The RG play a very limited role in the book! Even though the spoilers you've read detail what happens to them, they probably get a total of three pages worth of dedicated text in the whole book.

Seriously, its called Cadian Blood for a very good reason.

Man down, Man down....

O H I am in the Webway...

I've read it, it's about a Cadians with a bit of ravenguard in the background. There really isn't any even fighting parts with the Ravenguard, the only real character involved is a Librarian.

If you want to read it just for the ravenguard parts, I would say don't.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

I went to my GW a while ago, the staff were going crazy selling Cadian Blood.

They were like "OMG Its Imperial guard and Zombies!"

Looks good though.

Looks aren't deceiving in this case.

I cannot recommend this book enough, as the author is fantastic. I'm really anxious for his Night Lords novel.

The zombie element is really underplayed though....at least in my opinion.

I didn't get that sense of OMG these guys are stranded on a zombie world....the zombies are more like "regular" chaos cultists...

Man down, Man down....

Well remember, there were two types of "zombies".

The Remnant and the Plagueslain.

The Remnant were the leftover PDF--and mostly still intact no less, using weapons, etc--and the main threat in the book. The Plagueslain were just the opposite, and always hunkered themselves into the midst of the conflicts between the Remnant and the Reclamation.

Seems like its a good book. Im gonna go buy it tomoro, along with Masters of the Chapter for my friends birthday

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Cadian Blood was an excellent book. I picked it up for vacation reading and it was well worth the price. The Raven Guard are in it but like Delephont said we're talking 3 to 5 pages tops. The big stuff with them even happens off screen so don't get excited. Gave a good account of themselves though.

I have to say the zombie angle is also played down pretty majorly. The primary enemy is the Remnant and to a lesser degree the Death Guard. The zombies were never really used for any more than cannon fodder by the forces of chaos. Just used to wear down the guard more than anything. The guardsman don't seem to have any issue killing the plaugeslain at all, they're more of an environmental concern to be overcome than a real enemy.

And Toeniji, I love the bit at the end with him.
