Day of Reckoning
Prologue
The year is 40,000 AD and the Imperium forces are in a huge apocalyptic battle with the dreaded Chaos Space Marines on the Planet Dolumar IV. The Imperium are fielding their huge Baneblades, various battle tanks and troop transports, as well as a hundred or so Land Raiders which all have their own squad of Space Marines, but on top of that there
are thousands of Imperial Guard with Heavy squads and Catachan Jungle fighters with the support of two thousand of the Emperor’s finest warriors the Space Marines. The Space Marines consist of Scouts, Power Armoured Marines, Devastator Marines, Assault and Close Combat Terminators, Dreadnoughts and most importantly a combined Command Squad consisting of a Space Marine Command Squad and an Imperial Guard Command Squad.
The Chaos Marine Army has hundreds upon hundreds of Plague Marines, Traitors, Chaos Terminators, Obliterators and most importantly Chaos Space Marines. Not much else is known about these foul beings other than they have a Tower of Skulls tank, Chaos version of a Baneblade, Biker Squads and some similar vehicles to the Space Marines.
The Battle Commences
“I Lexicanum Marchanius will lead you, my Space Marines, into battle against the Heretic Chaos Marines.” We then charged the Heretics and we had the support of Imperial Guard Bombers and Valkyries who dropped a hell of a lot of incendiary bombs over the Chaos enemy. Their aim being to weaken their troop force and to kill off most of their Traitor infantry and most if not a large portion of the Chaos Space Marines. We took large casualties. I and my forces, about ten scouts and Fifteen Space Marines, were attempting to flank a group of Chaos Space Marines manning a Chaos Basilisk. The Basilisk was bombing the troops trying to attack the Chaos force head on with little progress due to the artillery bombing. We had succeeded in our attack and our fellow troops are now pushing the Chaos Heretics back but very slowly they are bringing more and more Traitors forward to slow us down. This has no effect on us we will beat the Heretics down and kill every last one.
Day 2
This is supposed to have been the day the drop pods land down with extra Terminators and Dreadnoughts. But they have not arrived yet but we have good news from our HQ that the Pods will arrive towards the end of the day. We are now not sure when the end of the day is as the sun has been blotted out by the dense thick smoke of battle. The Chaos are relishing in the darkness of the sky but we will prevail and hack and smash the Chaos down to the ground.
The Thunderhawks we were promised have finally arrived and they are working well to push back the chaos. This battle could be over in no time if we continue at the rate we are going.
Finally it’s got to be the end of the day because we can all hear the sound of retro-thrusters which means our drop pods have arrived the positions in which they landed took out many of the Chaos which worked to our advantage so there are less of them to kill.
Day 3
The battle front looks bleak and we have only taken less than nine hundred casualties and we have only lost fifteen tanks in total whereas the Chaos have taken tens of thousands of casualties compared to us, The Chaos have less than four hundred men left and three tanks we believe that we will have rid of the Chaos with an orbital bombardment and we should be victorious but before we do that we need to get the HQ to give the orbital support permission to in range to bomb the Chaos to kingdom come.
It’s now three or four hours later, “Sarge we have great news, the bombardment we wanted will be authorised for tomorrow.” I then replied with “Right we need to give them our coordinates and find some where to take shelter during the bombing.”
Later that day just before dusk we found our selves a decent place to shelter with our men. It was on the outskirts of the battle field, a deep underground bunker which must have been from the chapter that was based here before they defected to Chaos. The bunker was reinforced with adamantium and bonded ceramite. The inside of the bunker was dark and the fusion generator needed to be booted up. That was done and we saw that all the walls were bare a part from a small screen which had an audio message that we played:
All those who venture out will be slain by the unmerciful Chaos
We had tried to go and call for help on the interplanetary comms
We never managed to make it to the building half of our squad
It dreads me to remember the fate of our brothers who fought valiantly
They died for a good reason to protect the Emperor’s name
We wont hold out much longer Oh No!!
The Chaos have got in through the door after this we are doomed
Arm up men and hold your ground!!!
(The next sounds were that of screams and bullets)
End of transmission…..
That message was enough for us to continue the effort and beat the Chaos and return this world to its former glory. We will call in this orbital bombardment immediately and destroy every last Heretic.
Day 4
This will be the last day of battle and we will rid this poor world of its. The bombing is on its way and we are safely in our stronghold. “Sarge!!” the comms operator shouted “The bombardment is imminent brace for impact!!” We heard the first explosions almost in the far distance and in slow succession but then the payload was opened and all we could hear was explosion after explosion in extremely quick succession. Several moments later we got a message through on the comms telling us that the bombardment was over and that we should send out some Scouts just to check the area for any remnants of the Chaos. “Sarge we have bad news there are roughly twenty-forty Chaos left it will be easier to send out two Combat Squads and a Predator.”
“Right you heard the man get those Men and the Predator out there and back up those scouts.” It’s been less than forty five minutes and the Troops and Predator are on their way back having killed off the last few Chaos. The men will be given their honours for their duties. We just need to call in our extraction Thunderhawks.
Epilogue
War effects people in many different ways many of the Commanders and Commissars have their ways of encouraging us troops to get on with it and they have many famous quotes such as one from Lieutenant Konarski:
'We're the Death Korp of Krieg, son. Did you think that was just a pretty name? We never retreat. We fight and we die, that's the Krieg way.'
This is just one of many famous quotes from our forefathers on how we never retreat and fight to the end. Yet you'll never see a Space Marine having any form of nervous breakdown from what they have seen in battle they are, luckily, genetically engineered to be able to take what ever war throws at them. Whereas we Imperial Guard we are like average humans and there have been reports of some Guards committing suicide due to what they have seen, some also go mad with fear of seeing all of the horrific sights again.
At least we managed return this world back to its former glory we have left around four hundred of our finest Space Marines, six hundred Imperial Guard and a couple of hundred tanks and heavy weapons to protect the planet from any future attacks. The Space Marines where called the Dolumar Warriors. The Imperial Guard are called The Dolumarian Garrison.
