Okay, so there are many ties between these filthy xenos races.
1. They both have Fusion guns, and those weopons have the same exact stats and names in both armies, and have similarities in appearance.
2. The Tau make a frienldy reference about the Eldar in Fire Warrior(The playstion 2 game) and say something about how the Eldar are wise and just.
Are the Eldar helping the Tau out by giving them fusion technology?
Or is it just a coincidence?

The Eldar generally view the Tau as more young and misguided than humans, but don't often fight against them unless they're in the way of the Eldar's objectives, like they do with humans.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Eldar treat the tau the same way as they would any other race. . . as tools to be used and discarded, if they are on good terms it is only until the Eldar are done using them to get some unfathomable goal

OHHHHHHHHHHH:
they both refer to humans as "Mon Kiegh"
I know the Tau do in their old Codex,
And i belive the Eldar do in the first Dawn of War Book.
I tell you, they are allies.
No matter, even united they are both weak disgusting races Automatically Appended Next Post: Huffy wrote:Eldar treat the tau the same way as they would any other race. . . as tools to be used and discarded, if they are on good terms it is only until the Eldar are done using them to get some unfathomable goal
Yes Huffy. You seem most wise on this matter. The Eldar are filthy and mischiveious.
They would use the Tau, under the viel of friendship and unity.
I don't know what is worse, the Naivety of those feeble-minded Tau (who for all their technological advances still cannot traverse the warp), or how wise the Eldar belive themselves to be.

The Tau look up to the Eldar as a race to be learned from (after all they are the oldest remaining race besides necrons, if you don't count chaos as a race but an affiliation), and the Eldar view the Tau as willing yet unwitting tools.
That Tau learn from the Eldar, the Eldar use the Tau just like any other race.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy. |

The Tau and Eldar are NOT allies.
The Tau want the Eldar to be integrated in their system of the "Greater Good" Whilst the Eldar simply want to complete their own objectives.
The Eldar are too proud to follow the Tau's mantra, and the Tau are too naive to understand why. The Eldar are near the brink of extinction, they will do ANYTHING to survive, including readily sacrificing races like the Tau to do so.
The Tau, on the other hand, want to expand their empire, but they use such clever "diplomacy" to "convince" the other races to join them. However, the Eldar are determined to destroy and defeat Chaos, especially followers of Slaanesh, and will not bow to such naive fools.

Untrue. The Eldar are stated to have taken a vested interest in guiding and protecting the Tau, to an extent.

Where's that, Kanluwen?
This is an interesting thread. I'd never thought about it before, but if the Eldar ever took a shine to anyone (or as we would see it, barely tolerated them) it'd definitely be the Tau.

Eurgh. Gonna make me have to dig for it.
There was a quote in WD296(2004 September, US issue) from Eldrad discussing the form of protectiveness he felt towards the Tau, and surmising that it might have been potentially the Old Ones interfering again.

@Lordrevege: Just a quick note, with regards to tau and their inability to traverse the warp, I have two points:
First, think of the potential hazard to every other species including humanity if they were able to traverse the warp, they have exceedingly superior firepower and advanced tactics, which in space warfare is what counts.
Second, it is possible the Tau may acquire or create an alternate form of faster than light travel, and the Eldar are a perfect example. They use the webway, not the warp, which is totally risk free (save the few intruders that manage to penetrate it) as in no deamons, and is a creation of the Eldar. If they were or are already allied, then the Eldar would gain a great advantage in numbers and the Tau would be capable of rapid expansion.
Oh, and don't forget, just because the Tau have no resinence in the warp, they have allies in the empire that do. As well, they may have resinence in another warp for all the grimdark we know...

Necrons do the FTL travel (edit: without using the warp)
Although I'm a stauch advocate of pro-Eldar tendencies with my beloved Tau Empire.
The Eldar call Humanity "mon-keigh" (monkey) and the Tau call Hunamity "gue'la" (gorilla). Mehbeh the Tau are the answer for the Imperial infection that's infesting the galaxy?

That was in the original Tau codex, but he didn't talk about the Old Ones. (Unless there are two versions of the quote, which is possible of course.)
Unlike the Tau calling humans mon keighs. Tau call humans gue'la.
The Tau will ally with anyone willing. Since Eldar craftworlds operate semi-independently, it's entirely possible a craftworld in Tau space would ally with them for some purpose.

Indubitably.
I'm still waiting to see Eldar mercs in the Tau Empire book.
Would be quite interesting to see Pathfinders/Rangers.

I don't think that will happen. It is more likely Gue-vesa will make a comeback.
However, for friendly games or campaigns, a local Eldar-Tau Alliance is a reasonable choice to fight the Imperium, Chaos or Nids/Orks/Necrons.
Some Imperial units will apparently temporarily ally with Eldar or Tau. None of the Chaos, Orks, Necrons or Nids will ally with anyone.
