Tale of Two Armies

Warhammer 40K
1000 point Tournament
December 19th

First round starts at Noon (Dice rolling... store opens at 11 with pairings done at 11:45)
$10 Entry Fee

Players will bring two 1000pt. army lists from the same Army Codex. Standard force organization applies (i.e. one HQ, and 2 Troops). Each army list must have be different and only Troop choices may be the same in each list. For example, if Leman Russes (regardless of variant) appear in one list as a Heavy Choice, they may not be chosen in the other list. However if a Carnifex is selected as a Heavy Choice in one list, it may be chosen as an Elite Choice in the other.

The idea is two have two distinct army lists. Some exceptions will be made on a case by case situation, as some armies will almost have to have the same choice in each list. Foe example, the Necrons don’t have much choice when it comes to HQs.

At the beginning of each round, after the scenarios have been revealed, your opponent will look at each of your lists, and will choose which one you will play. You will do the same for your opponent.

The following Army Codices will be allowed; Space Marines, Dark Angels, Black Templars, Space Wolves, Blood Angels (from White Dwarf), Imperial Guard, Eldar, Chaos Space Marines, Daemons of Chaos, Daemon Hunters, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Witch Hunters, Tau, Tyranids.

There will be prizes for the top three finishers, and a prize for Best Painted Miniature.

That sounds interesting, but it gives armies favoured by GW a huge advantage, due to their variety.

Actually I think this is a fair setup, though who picks first is at a disadvantage, because the second general suddenly knows which army he is going to have to use.

Looking forward to it

I agree that some armies with flexible FOCs have an advantage. I know Space Marines can build two similar lists simply by changing Landspeeders for Attack Bikes, Predators for Whirlwinds, etc. However, I think there are ways to still get two viable lists (at this point level anyway) out of most armies. Eric (who is running the event) is also a very reasonable person and might be willing to make exceptions if certain armies are particularly boned (Necrons and Tau for instance IMO).

As for the picking first/second, I'm not sure if it's a roll off like to see who goes first or if you could do double blind (e.g. write it on slips of paper and reveal at the same time).

In any case, I think it'll be a fun event and I hope to see some new faces there.

It will be double blind army list selection.
