This may be old news to everyone, but I just caught this last night. I do not have the Space Wolf Codex with me, so I can't give specific page numbers, but here is the general idea.
Logan Grimnar fought his way through the ranks of his Great Company under the watchful eye of his mentor, Ulric the Slayer, who was a Wolf Priest. Logan eventually became the Wolf Lord of his Great Company and, ultimately, the Great Wolf of the Chapter.
Logan was the Great Wolf at the time of the First Battle for Armageddon.
Ulric did not earn the title of Wolf Priest until his actions at the First Battle for Armageddon.
Thoughts?

I noticed this as well. Took a complete double-take of the Codex and re-read the relevant pages on this mistake

Yeah, I had to read each section a couple times to make sure I wasn't confusing myself. I can understand GW confusing names or whatever in sagas, even intentionally, as that is the nature of sagas. This is something completely different. There shouldn't be this sort of confusion in "hard" fluff. If that makes any sense.

Its a bit like the sitation with Ragnar; he is attributed in the SW dex as being mentored by Ulrik the Slayer, but in the SW novels (which are fairly canonical considering there were excerpts in the last dex) say it was Ranek Ice-Walker who did so. Bill King himself said it was something that would never be resolved; and I spose as has been said, its GW's policy, that its all perspectives.
Its not a new cockup or anything (been around since the last book), but its a bit annoying.

There is a whole lot of issues with the SW and the GW fluff. In the space wolf novels ragnar had to be around 18-21 when he started the process of becoming a SM but the SM fluff stated they are selected from even a younger age and that it takes years before all of the organs are in place. But in the SW novels it seems that the whole event of becoming a SW took but a few months. That GW for you.

Im fairly sure the SW are one of the few chapters that can recruit older aspirants; as the majority of chapters, in order tohave a shot at the organs taking, must have aspirants at like 13 years old. But I seem to recall that Bulveye and many of the original Wolf Lords were older grizzled warriors instead of young blokes.
As for the time taken, well, again, it could be GW trying to be obscure and daft; making praps a year for the chapter seem like 3 months to ragnar and co.
@Alpharius- I am just waiting for one ill informed publisher to have spehss mehreens and special character Indrick Baldeale in a new edition of the SM codex
