I've read quite a bit about the Eldar, but this still confuses me. Do the eldar follow the path to avoid excess emotion? I gather that's sort of not the case, that they are creating seperate identities who can experience things without overwhelming the true self, but wouldn't it be better to flit from interest to interest, to avoid getting tangled up and consumed? How does obsessing over one aspect protect them ?Why isn't slanessh attracted to obsession? Is it that the paths are very percisely structured? I'd love som em insight fromm some eldar vets. Thanks.
P.S. Sorry about the scatterred post, it's pretty late.

I think it's because becoming wild and indulging in every sensation they desired, whenever they desired, led to the Fall. By self imposing restrictions they stop that part of their nature consuming them. It is sort of like a monk taking self imposed vows of some sort, to adjust their thinking and actions and strive to be whatever they think they should be. And this mindset is not mutually exclusive to attempting to attain perfection in a specific field: many martial arts encourage the same sort of calm, focused thought.

Terra, circa M2

Morgrim has it.

And quite often one of them WILL get tangled up and consumed by the path they are on; that's where Exarchs come from.

I always thought it would be entertaining to think of other Eldar becoming trapped in their paths, but I recall the latest codex suggesting that Farseers were essentially the Exarchs of the Seer Path.

The eldar paths are so rigorous and demanding, there is no time for excess, no time for regret, success or failure.

This is correct, Farseers are 'exarch' Warlocks. There are also 'exarchs' for trades paths as well. One example given were the Bards of Twilight, 'exarch' musicians and players.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

The Eldar travel through different paths to teach themselves duty, purpose and disipline. It also keeps them busy so they don't have time for leisure or pleasurable experiences. I mean how can you bang that Eldar chick next door when your busy learning how to do serve your craftworld in every way possible?(well except increasing the population that is! )
Hope this helps man.
