We have a lot of new players coming into the store so we've started up a planetary empires campaign. Originally I was going to play Tau for it but there were a lot of requests to see the daemon army in action. So since I didn't have a campaign game week 1 I switched over, plus I've been working on some new model's I wanted to try out anyways. The campaign is scheduled for 8 weeks, with incrementing points every two weeks. So weeks 1-2 are at 1250, weeks 3-4 1500, etc. Please keep in mind that the majority of these will be against newer players and be a little kinder when writing about their lists. I'm not sure why but all of the pic's seemed to come out a little blurry, sorry if it hurts your eyes!

The guard get the first turn and set up 2 squad and the company command squad
Guard Turn #1
Everything comes on his table edge except the ratlings who outflank. Some run moves later and the guard are filling up their side.
Daemons Turn #1
I get my preferred wave in. So in comes both great unclean one's, both daemon princes, and 1 squad of plague bearers. The daemon princes attempt to get behind the large blocks for cover, but do some good drifting. One great unclean one lands and runs right up next to a whole mess o guard. The other lands behind cover. Plague bearers drop behind an objective near my table edge.
The umm, err, charge of the Great Unclan One, or maybe it's more of a saunter.
Guard Turn #2
So up move the guardsmen towards the great unclean one. First rank fire and the unclean one takes a wound, double tap's from the next squad and the great unclean one takes another wound. Double taps from the third guard squad and the unclean one takes another wound. The
ccs fails to do anything. The plasma sentinnels draw a bead to the great unclean one and both deviate off. Pask lines up and fire's getting two wounds so the Great Unclean One survives the round with 1 wound left. On the other side the leman russ moves up and shoots one of the princes causing a wound. Some long range las shots fail to do any damage.
Daemons Turn #2
I get in one unit of flamers. That mishap and go back into reserves. My Great Unclean One with breath moves up and shoots at a guard squad killing 2 assault's the squad and breaks them, they start to run.. My other great unclean one moves up into range and unleashes aura of decay. First unit takes 2 wounds, makes both cover saves,
ccs takes 3 wounds makes all of their armor saves, I only do 2 wounds to the next squad and he saves one, I do 3 wounds to the last squad who fail them all, break and then run. The great unclean one then charges into a guard squad, who lose 2 and pass morale. One of the daemon princes charges a
PCS (after rolling a 1 to hit for boon) and kills 2 models, the guard pass their morale check. The other daemon prince charges and destroy's the leman russ.
Guard Turn #3
The ratlings come on in a flanking position. The
ccs issues bring it down to a guard squad on the breath great unclean one, which the guardsmen didn't even need, hitting with all but 2 of their shots, and then getting one more hit off the re-rols, 4 sixes later and the great unclean one has 2 wounds on it, unfortunately those were the only wounds he took that turn. The undamaged daemon prince takes some plasma cannon rounds to the face, and some shot from pask, giving him two wounds. More guardsmen pile in on the great unclean one, but fail to get that last wound. The original squad breaks and flees, and the new squad is down to 3 models. The other daemon prince finish's off the
pcs.
Daemons Turn #3
Both units of plague flies decide they are happy in the garden of nurgle, and the only re-inforcements I get is one plague bearer squad, who deep strike in near the center objective. My great unclean one moves up and breath's on a bunch of guardsmen killing 3 from the
ccs 2 from another squad and none from another squad. He then fails to get a charge off on the
ccs. The daemon prince that destroyed the russ jumps over and munch's an infantry squad (keeping a running guard squad from being able to rally). The other daemon prince jumps behind pasks tank (again next to a falling back squad). After 5 attacks on pasks tank (all auto-hitting needing 5's to glance on
2d6) pask survives with a weapon destroyed and immobilized. The 3 last valiant guardsmen hit twice and roll double six's on the severly wounded great unclean one sending it back to the warp.
Guard Turn #4
The two falling back squads head for the hills off the table. The ratlings,
pcs and remnants of the infantry squad shoot up the center plague bearers, killing 3. Nothing else really causes any damage. The daemon prince attack pask finish's stripping all of the weapons off, leaving and immobilized tank with no guns.
Daemons Turn #4
The plague flies show up with double hits, killing off the ratlings, and an infantry squad. The breath great unclean one makes it to the
ccs and squashs the imperial commander under his fist. The 2 remaining plague bearers assault the 3 man guard squad killing one but they hold. The daemon prince leaves off munching on pasks tank and kills off the
pcs. The other daemon prince assaults the sentinnel's stunning both of them.
Guard Turn #5
The heavy flamer sentinnel flames the plague flies, killing 2, and assault's but doesn't manage to kill the last one off. The plague bearers kill the last remaining infantry squad. The daemon prince manages to destroy one of the sentinnels.
Daemons Turn #5
The breath great unclean one moves up and assaults the sentinnel but fails to kill it. The daemon prince fails to kill the lone sentinnel but the other one finally destroys pasks ride.
We roll for another turn, mainly for fun to see if the sentinnel's can survive.
Guard Turn #6
The daemon prince fails to kill the sentinnel. The other is coming over to help out.
Daemons Turn #6
The flamer sentinnel survives the great unclean one's attacks, but the last plasma cannon sentinnel goes down.
And we go for another turn
Guard Turn #7
The great unclean one still cannot take out the sentinnel.
Daemons Turn #7
The sentinnel finally kills off the flamer, and the great unclean one finally gets a penatrating 6 to cause a massive explosion for all to see.
The aftermath for the guard: This was the guard players first time playing against daemon's, he's also thinking about wanting to do them as his next army, so even though the daemons munched through his army he had a blast. Afterwards we had a discussion on corner castling, castling, target priorty, and combining fire. His biggest problem was an inability to concentrate fire. Instead of putting some shots on the other daemon prince if he had combined fire he might have been able to kill off the great unclean one. We also discussed target priority (with the daemon princes being more maneuverable and a little more susceptible to lasgun fire they were probably the better target, especially for lascannons, plasma cannons, and pask (4+ vs. 5+). We also discussed getting at least some auto-cannons for his infantry squads.
The aftermath for the daemons: I really don't like putting breath on the
guo. I think it tempts you to get way too risky for his deep strike, also it removes models for him to charge. I do think that aura was alright for the points and will help against hordes of guardsmen, nids, and eldar. Boon did nothing for me this game, and since the daemon princes double as my primary anti-tank i think it's probably going to be a waste for them although it's definitely nice to have, but maybe just not in this list. Anyways thanks for reading.
