Had a game last night against Orks – both sides taken a super heavy.

Imperial Guard

* All tanks have hull mounted heavy flamers

Game: Pitched battle & seize ground



Turn 1

Guard rolled to go first, both valkyries loaded with two melta vets each turbo boost using the scout move.

In the first turn all tanks move forward, except one flamer vets which is sitting on the guard objective and a supporting command squad, which pops smoke. Valkyries move 6” and melta vets bail out and eye up both deffrolla battlewagons each.

In the shooting turn both deffrolla wagons are fried by meltaguns, the valkyries unleash multiple rocket pods, one unit has 6 boyz left and the other unit has 15 left, the one boyz unit passes leadership test to stay around. The lootas in terrain get hit by the hellhammers S10 AP1 no cover saves shot, kills 4 of them, but they pass morale ok. The flamer vets chimera on the objective along with a demolisher and the battle tank fire at a trukk blocking LOS to the nobz wagon, only score crew stunned and weapon destroyed results. The other demolisher fires at the stompa but only scores crew stunned result, the deth cannon is chosen not to fire this turn . The lootas in the naked battlewagon with the big mek suffer weapon destroyed from two lascannon shots on the side armour by the hellhammer.

In assault the melta vets pile into the 6 man strong ork unit, kill 4 and lose 3 themselves. Orks pass morale and hang in there.



In the ork turn whatever can move forwards moves forward. Both units of lootas hold position, the crew stunned trukk boyz bail out and prepare to assault the melta vets which are already locked in combat with the remaining wagon boyz. The other trukk moves through terrain onto the ork objective, which is in the ruin occupied by the lootas.

In the shooting phase the ruin lootas score weapon destroyed on the hellhound squad, the inferno cannon is removed from one. The other lootas target the weaker rear armour of a valkyrie and gun it down with a wrecked result. A rokkit from a deffkopter fails to do any damage on the other valkyrie and the deffkopters miss their targets too! The stompa gets more lucky and fires 2 super rokkits, they wreck the melta vets chimera, it then guns down 4 of them with big shoot and super skorcha fire. The other battlewagon boyz shoot at the melta vets which wrecked their wagon, scoring a handful of wounds.

In the assault phase the trukk boyz assaulted the melta vets and killed all but 2, the remaining wagon boyz finish them off, but each nob takes a wound in assault and one boy from the battered wagon unit is killed, leaving just the wounded nob. The other wagon boyz charge and kill the other melta vet unit.



Turn 2

The command squad supporting the flamer vets on the guard objective moves 12” towards the lootas in the wagon. Both hellhounds move forward and target a deffkopter. Melta vets on foot move forward and target the stompa, but will be out of melta range. Flamer vets and other supporting command squad move towards ork objective and target another deffkopter. Other remaining valkyrie moves and targets wagon boyz on foot.

In the shooting turn one demolisher fires at the stompa, it scatters and misses. Other demolisher and battle tank fire at both ork units which killed the melta vets in combat, score hits but orks mostly pass cover saves as the wagon exploded and left difficult terrain to cover in. Valkyrie rains down multiple missiles on the other wagon boyz, leaves two left standing after multi laser fire too. Both hellhounds unleash the pain on a deffkopter and kill it. Flamer vets and command squad unleash flame and plasma at the other deffkopter and kill it, only the buzzsaw kopter left now. The hellhammer wipes out the lootas in the ruin with its main S10 AP1 shot when it lands on target. Lastly, the melta vets on foot fire at the stompa, score a 6 on the damage chart, which in apocalypse claims a structure point and allows you to re-roll, another 6 is rolled after the re-roll and then another 6! Then a 5 is rolled +1 for melta and the stompa has lost all structure points from one melta shot and a massive chain reaction!!



In the ork movement phase the nobz battlewagon moves through terrain ok and ends up right in front of the three leman russ formation. The boyz load back up into their trukk which moves 12”, the solo nob moves into terrain for cover. The solo buzzsaw deffkopter flies over the flamer vets chimera and targets the rear armour. The other remaining wagon boyz move 6” towards their objective. The boss and nobz bail out the wagon, the boss leaves the nob unit.

In the shooting turn the remaining lootas score weapon destroyed on the command squad’s chimera near the guard objective, the heavy flamer is lost. Deffkopter misses the flamer vets chimera even at point blank range and the solo rokkit from the two remaining wagon boyz unit misses the valkyrie.

In assault the boss wrecks a demolisher, the nobz score crew shaken on the other demolisher. The deffkopter only scores crew shaken on the flamer vets chimera with the buzzsaw. The nob in the remaining two man wagon mob wrecks the valkyrie with his trusty power klaw.



Turn 3

Melta vets on foot which popped the stompa move towards the ork objective, the two hellhounds move as well and screen them from boyz fire from the trukk for orks next turn. Flamer vets shaken chimera moves away from the deffkopter, Hellhammer moves towards nobz and battle tank backs away from the boss, but still in heavy flamer range.

In the shooting phase one command squad issues move move move order to the melta vets on foot, they moved 3” in total, not so good. The other CCS issues bring it down to itself and pops the ork trukk, their chimera kills the solo wounded nob in terrain. The other command squad unleash plasma on the deffkopter which shaken the flamer vets chimera, but fail to wipe it out after cover saves. The battle tank fires heavy flamer at the boss and lands on target with the battle canon, but the boss only takes one wound. The hellhammer fires at the nobz and after saves kills 3 of them, only the painboy, waagh! banner, big choppa and boss pole nobz left. Chimera on the guard objective unleashes heavy flamer at the trukk boyz, their trukk barrel rolled 7” and ended up in front of the guard objective ruin.



Orks turn the boss called a waaagh! in order to get the remaining nobz onto the guard objective. The boss moves towards the hellhammer and gets his power klaw ready to give it a good whacking. The nobz move towards the objective. The trukk boyz move onto the objective and prepare to assault the flamer vets chimera. The solo deffkopter chases after the melta vets on foot. Wagon boyz which wrecked the last valkyrie move onto the ork objective supporting the trukk boyz already on it. Nobz battlewagon rams the leman russ battle tank, scores crew stunned result.

Lootas fire at the command squads chimera by the guard objective, they pop it and a plasma guardsmen is killed in the blast. Deffkopter fires at one of the melta vets and kills one.

In assault the trukk boyz wreck the flamer vets chimera, the nobz run but aren’t close enough to assault the flamer vets chimera. The boss assaults the hellhammer, claims a structure point and damages the main cannon, which fails its cover save. Deffkopter charges and kills one guardsmen, guardsmen pass morale and stay locked in combat.



Turn 4

Hellhounds both move 6” onto the ork objective and contest it, command squad moves 6” and is at the edge of the terrain the ork objective is in. Flamer vets just outside it on the other side of the ruin. Hellhammer moves away from the ork warboss. Flamer vets which just lost their chimera move through terrain onto the second level of the ruin so now in base contact with their objective. Command squad on foot moves towards guard objective.

Command squad in the chimera issues bring it down to itself, they destroy the ork trukk on the ork objective. Both hellhounds unleash flame at the trukk boyz, which also catches the remaining wagon boyz. Nob from the trukk boyz survives and wagon boyz take no wounds. Other command squad issues move move move to itself and they run 4” and support the flamer squad on the objective, also issues first rank fire second rank fire to the flamer vets which BBQ and laser burn the orks which wrecked their chimera. The hellhammer unleashes lascannon shots and heavy flamer at the warboss and finally kills it! It fires the demolisher shot at the nobz, it scatters and hits their wagon and pops it.



Orks turn little movement, surviving nob mob moves into terrain with the guard objective.

Shooting the lootas have nothing to fire at. The nob mob fires at the command squad on the guard objective but score no wounds. The rokkit boy with the nob which popped the valkyrie scores weapon destroyed result on the other hellhound.

In assault both remaining units of boyz charge the two hellhounds, the nobz wreck them both with power klaws. The deffkopter kills one melta vet out of the remaining three, but they remain tied up in close combat. The nobz assault the command squad, commander suffers a wound only but stay in combat.



Turn 5

Last leman russ moves through the wrecked remains of the nobz battlewagon and targets the lootas wagon, hellhammer smashes the wrecked demolisher out the way and guns up the lootas too. Flamer vets in the chimera moves onto the ork objective and claims it for the guard, the command squad moves on as well.

In the shooting phase the hellhammer fires lascannons at the lootas wagon and pops it, it fires demolisher shell and heavy bolters and kills 3 lootas after cover saves – big mek uses KFF . Battle tank fires battle cannon, scatters but catches two lootas, only one is killed after cover saves. Lootas pass morale.

In assault the nobz split attacks, the command squad loses two plasma gunners and the flamer vets take 3 wounds. Deffkopter kills one melta vet, only one remaining.



In the ork turn the lootas fire at the flamer vets chimera on their objective, but score no damage on the chimera.

In assault the deffkopter kills the last melta vet and consolidates towards the ork objective. The command squad and flamer vets are killed in combat against the nobz, the nobz consolidate and claim the guard objective.



Turn 6

The flamer vets chimera on the ork objective moves 6” to make sure in range of the lootas, but still within range of the ork objective. The command squad in the chimera moves about 1” in case the deffkopter isn’t killed by plasma fire, so at least hitting on 4+. The battle tank moves towards the guard objective and the hellhammer moves towards the lootas.

In the shooting phase the battle tank burns and blasts the nobz, leaves only the painboy remaining. The hellhammer kills the big mek and 4 lootas, only 3 left, they fail morale and fall back 5” putting them 1” away from the board edge. Command squad wastes the deffkopter with plasma fire.



Painboy holds the guard objective, no assaults or shooting by orks.



Game is a tactical draw. Both armies hold each others objectives!



Summary

Wow what a game! I seriously thought the orks were beaten and hopefully would be tabled. Some tense stuff at the end of the game.

Valkyries did better with multiple missile pods instead of being vendettas, perhaps this is because against orks which wouldn’t get a armour save. They serious put the pain in though.

Hellhammer is a nasty piece of kit! S10 AP1 no cover saves is just dirt!

Shocking, I cannot believe for the stompa that I rolled three 6’s in a row and then a 5, which is +1 for melta wrecking the stompa in one turn. Easy as that for stompa lol.

Hellhounds didn’t do much again, but on one of the last turns put the pain in. They’re nasty. I’m going to give bane wolves a try next time instead.

i don't think you get a +1 for melta/ap1 stuff on the super heavy damage chart since it isn't listed as a modifier there. the melta modifier is only listed on the regular vehicle damage table and isn't under the description of melta IIRC. strength D weapons have it listed on their description and the super heavy chart so they get it on any damage chart that GW may come up with even in the future. good battle report. i'm thinking about picking up two valks for xmas.

no bigee. i thought the same thing until someone pointed it out that there is nothing inherent to the melta that gives it a +1 and nothing in any apoc book (GW or forgeworld) that mentions it. the apoc reloaded book was written i believe under 5th and it didn't add the rule either.

edit: that's wierd, mercer. you've got a different flag on each post. are you travelling or is it just a wierd EU IP address thing?
