I want to start a harad army, mainly, of course for the chance of getting a mumak. My question is whether the mumak is actually any good and what would be best to support it. Any advice is welcome.

You are approaching this entirely the wrong way.

Of course you are going to get a mumak. Probably two. There is no point in having a Fallen Realms army without a mumak, so stop playing coy.

And yes, they are quite good. They bring a lot of joy and hilarity to the table. When your mumak eventually stampedes through half your army, oh how you will laugh! And since it will have destroyed about half of the opponent's forces by then, the game will be even again, your opponent's despair will vanish, hope will be rekindled in his heart, and you get to have the pleasure of crushing his spirit all over again.

Support? Stop with the crazy talk. First, as long as the mumak is on the table, it will rightly be the entire focus of your opponent (unless he's an idiot). Second, you don't want your own formations anywhere near the beastie, especially once it starts losing crew- trust me on this. Third, in a combat by itself, a monster doesn't take panic tests. Why give your opponent a softer target?

Since the mumak is a rare formation, you have to have at least one common formation for each. Your cheapest common formation is probably Haradrim warriors, who have poisoned attacks (can reroll 1's to hit), and can be given bows.

You also must have an epic hero or legendary formation. A Ringwraith is a good choice here.

An all-Haradrim force can be assembled fairly cheaply, if you stick to the plastic kits. Myself, I like to mix things up with Easterling heavy infantry and Morgul Knights for the heavy cavalry.

Oh, wait, you want help with LotR. Sorry, I can only base my advice on WotR. Ignore the above.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I was going to recomend adding Easterlings as well. Pikes and heavy armor are your friends. Not to include their cav is awsome and almost on par with knights of dol amorth. Harad are cheap point wise for companies so the more the merrier and you will most likely end up wiht about two mumaks.

It really sepends on what you want your army to be like, all calvary based with the support of a mumak or all foot based with the support of a mumak.

If you want all calvary this seems a good set up;
- 1 mumak with 12 bow armed crew and a mahud
- Mounted Chieftan
- 12 Haradrim raiders
- 5 serpent raiders

That would give you a decent force to play around with.

In lotr, you still want none of your troops near the mumak, incase of a stampede, but support on the howdow is a different question. With rappelling lines, you can effectively transport half troll, snd watchers of karna, right into the thick of the enemy.

You can only field haradrim WARRIORS on a mumak. Suladan, kamul or some other WR is a must.

In lotr, you can put more than haradrim warriors on a mumak. I don't know about wotr.

Oh sorry my mistake , I normally prove everyone wrong when it comes to lotr and rules, BUT it does say haradrim warriors NOT heros.
