Ok, so lately I've had a couple posts that have been inactive forever, and now I'm getting flushed with messages about how it's been revived.

I'm curious, after a certain time shouldn't threads become 'archives' of a sort and revert to no commenting?

I think it'd be good. (even though I can just turn off hearing about them.)
