I've been kicking around this game called infinity. Its a scifi game based on stuff like a cross between Ghost in the shell and Blade Runner.

I really dig the sculpts, the selection of factions, and the whole gundam/ evengelon thing that they got going. There seems to be a serious website with a damn newscast/ big brother thing going for it.

Not to mention the free downloads to the material.

Someone has to play this game, if you do, tell me about it. Is it worth my time, should I look into a couple of boxes, what does it play like, whats the games ups and downs, etc.etc.

If it is worth my time, I might have to get in on some of that action.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Gathering the Informations.

I'm actually hard at work on writing a review.

But in brief:
Yes. It's worth it.

The rules are tight and pretty in-depth.

What's more is that, for the most part, very few of the factions would ever be caught dead allying...unless the Combine Army were invading.

Which is always a fun thing.

But as it stands, it plays more like Necromunda than 40k/Warmachine.

Which is always a great thing too.

How many years has this game been out, and how is the company that makes it?

Do I need more then 20 guys per sside to play a game?

How well is the download ruleset as compaired to the one that you buy?

What is a standard price for the guys, and what are they made out of?

Gathering the Informations.

All the figures are, at the moment, metal. There's some glaring gaps in the line( No SAS Snipers, things like that) currently.

The actual company producing everything is called "Corvus Belli" and is based in Spain. They have FANTASTIC customer service, of which I have nothing but good things to say. I had ordered a few models to paint and scope out(Ariadna Scout with Ojotnik, Foxtrot Ranger with Light GL/Rifle) and the rulebook. There was a snafu on my part, where I'd ordered them separately rather than together. They contacted me to tell me that they were concerned due to the fact that it would cost almost as much as the book itself to ship the book...so the development team signed the book and then realized they could combine the order to make it cheaper for me.

Not sure how long the game has been out,but the current rules are a 2nd edition which has a publication date of September 2008.

As for the requirements for the game itself...I'm still figuring it out. There are special rules in effect(Combat Groups) when the number of figures in an army number more than 10.

But a rough explanation of the Army Organization:
Availability: Each army is composed of several unit types and each one has an Availability Value(AVA). This value determines the number of miniatures of this kind that can be sent to a given battle. Troops with a higher AVA represent the most common types found on the battlefield while those with low AVA values are scarce or only seen in specific circumstances.

There are two types of Availability.

General Availability: This value is printed in the troop's description and is used when fighting a battle using a regular and non-mercenary army (such as a Pan Oceania, Yu Jing, or Ariadna force). Total Availability indicates as many figures can be chosen from that unit as desired.

Mercenary Availability: Mercenary forces allow a player to build a unique Mercenary Company rather than a regular army from a single faction. Mercenary Companies allow the enrollment of troops from up to three different factions to build a customized Mercenary Company. Troop availability is significantly reduced, half of the value of a unit's General Availability(rounded down).
So a Line Kazak unit(general availability for an Ariadnan Army being 'Total') would be, at most, able to have 4 men in it for a Mercenary unit.
The caveat is that if taking a Mercenary unit, you cannot have any Combine Army forces, and a Combine Army force cannot take any Mercenary units from the actual list of Mercenaries. Also, any special personality characters from an army list are not able to be taken, period, in a Mercenary army.

The thing to remember in making an 'army', from how it reads to me, is to remember that your forces aren't divided into "Okay, here's my Scout Squad, here's my Line Kazak Squad" things like that.

Your forces would generally be combined into one squad, unless you have more than 10 models in the army in which case you can set things up however you wish it(Line Kazaks with a Veteran Kazak as the anvil and a unit of Scouts with some SAS/Foxtrot Rangers as the sledgehammer for an Ariadna force seems to be a popular thing).

MODS - As a suggestion; perhaps we should pin some review threads. I think I've given overviews of Infinity 2 or 3 times on this subforum now... Helldorado and Heavy Gear twice... etc.

Infinity The Game -

Well having now played both editions of this game, and with my copy of Human Sphere winging its way towards me right now along with some Reinforcements for my Yu Jing and Pan Ocs to make use of the new rules... I have some experience playing Infinity. I also took part in an event Table Top Gaming News ran earlier this year called Battle Challenge where we decided to did a sort of 'tale of X gamers' style event playing the game and building forces.

If you'd like to read some Battle Reports to get a sense of Gameplay, check out the this subforum...

Overview -

Infinity is an skirmish-scale game of miniature combat set several hundred years in Earth's future. It has been designed with a fun 'Anime' inspired aesthetic and uses as its larger figures power-suit infantry known as T.A.G.S (tactical assault gear squadrons).

Players will in the current rules complete a single mission (12" deployment) from the rulebook. There are lots of fan-made more complex missions that are excellet (plug?). Teams will typically consist of groups of up to ten models, though a player can create multiple teams if he is including more figures and has the points (these will use seperate 'order pools').

All the rules for the game are available free online. You can also get all the up to date armylists this way as well.

Games will typically run from 200-300pts, with players vying to force the other team into 'retreat' by causing casualties in excess of 60% of the starting forces value.

Every model in the game is a seperate activation for your force, and there is a unique mechanic in this game where you receive additional activations dependant upon how many models you have. 'Orders' as they're called can be spent by any model in your force... and you can activate a single model multiple times with orders from your pool. The only exception to this is the 'free' order your Lieutenant in your force receives. Only he can use that one.

The other unique mechanic is that any time a model spends an order in line of site of an enemy model, they receive a free 'Automatic Response Order'. These are more limited than general orders but allow you to do things like shoot back, run for cover or even just plain ol' get out of dodge. This means that dispite the game being completely 'I Go U Go' there is still things to do to react and to be engaged in your opponents turn.

There are rules for 'linking' types of models in certain Sectorial armylists in the future. That means that a group of like models can consume a single order to all performe the same action with certain restrictions. This is new ground though so don't worry about it while starting out.

Forces are quite balanced, as there's not a huge disparity or 'difference' in how the factions operate. A guy with a rifle is... for the most part....a quy with a rifle. Differences typically come into play with availabilties of certain equipment types (Thermo Optics, Heavy Infantry, etc.) That being said everyone shares a common equipment chart, so their stuff operates much the same. There are diferences, don't get me wrong. The one collected 'Alien' faction (the Combined Army) have access to certain bio and hacker weapondry.

The models pretty much speak for themselves in their 'cool factor' and you can get a respectable starter army in any of the various faction sets. My personal favorites and the reason I got into the line were the Heavy Infantry. I love the look of these guys as they're variously inspired by some of my favorite japanese designers like Shirow Masamune.

This future of our race divides the powers of our planet into four. There's ALEPH, the AI that operates like an impartial UN to oversee the actions of the other factions. There's Yu-Jing, the eastern super-power. There's Pan-Oceania which is the collected Pacific cultures (New Zealand, Australia, etc). Finally there's the Nomads. These guys live in orbiting junk-heaps and run a chaotic society of liberal philosophies.

I'd rate this game as my current favority sci-fi Infantry Skirmish. Its got plenty of depth, the rules are fairly well realized and there's lots of nice models to paint. Give the rules a read and proxy a game. I mean, why not... its free after all.

There you go!

Another good review can be found....
