I cannot even get onto the multiplayer main menu.

Just keep on trying. Steam, while a great gaming platform, is a horrible piece of fethed up gak when it comes to dealing with extreme traffic. When I bought MW2 I couldn't install it for a week because of this.

Agreed. Steam is a 'steaming' pile of Grox gak. I have connection problems with Steam often, and end up with a lot of dropped games because of the amount of online traffic. So I've racked up more than a few unfair losses in my W/L count. Just keep trying. It'll fething wise-up after a while.
