Cheers!

After being away for some 15 yeas or so, I have recently considered getting a bit of gaming going, and was wondering what games I should be looking at.
Though I used to play a bit of WHFB and 40k, my interest in GW games have faded a bit, So I have decided to give "Gutshot" a go as it seems like the right sort of game for a bunch of of guys in our early 30'ies not wanting to get to serious about it (... though I guss we WILL!! be wearing hats talking trash and drinking whiskey while playing ! ) And it will also let me get started up easy on painting and terrain making.

Anyway.
I am also trying to get some gaming going with some of the people from my old group. And to that end I would like to get some opinions about what games to get.
We used to play Ad&D and Shadowrun, but as it got more and more difficult to get people together to play these at a regular basis. We eventually ended up playing mostly boardgames as these could be finished in one day/evening. So I am thinking this would be the the right way to get started again.

We used to play the "civilization" board game (the one set in the Mediterranean), Mighty empires, Space hulk, and Blood Bowl. And since we all are into computergames that run along strategy/RPG, I was thinking that games like Descent or Shadows over Camelot or twighlight imperium might be good places to start.. but what do you people think would eb a good game to get?

best regards
Christian

axis and allies.

mordheim would be choise as its free and dont have to use more than a few (20 or so) minis to start with. best part is you could use minis from other companies.

Infinity seams to be the new hotness. and rightly so, cheek out these:

I WOULD like to get to playing FoW... but none of my old mates are that dedicated, or into painting and collecting.
So Im afraid anything that uses a tape measurer is out of the question for that lot.
I take it that I will be the one getting all the stuff... which is fine by me.

I would also point you towards Fantasy Flight Games they produce a lot of good games with more coming as well. They already do a game called Chaos in the Old World, where you get to play as the 4 chaos gods, and they're doing a new Horus Heresy game next year as well.

There's always Risk and its many variants as well.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

ok, then if tape measure a no go, try clay-รถ-rama for a night, the cost is only play doh.
star fleet battles.
battle tech.
forget GW as all games aside from space hulk use a mesuring tape, and the cost of spacehulk is a bit prohibited, its also only 2 player, though you could posibly play with 4.

Well... I WOULD have bought the new space hulk, had it been available, but it's impossible to come by here. I was a HUGE fan of the old one, even bought the computer game for my commodore Amiga back then .

I don't care much for the GW universe anymore, but some of the other Fantasy Flight Games does seem nice. Twilight imperium seems like the kind of game I would consider..

Twilight Imperium is a great game if you like strategy/diplomacy style board games. My buddies and I have only played a handful of games, but they were always enjoyable.

My personal favorite FFG game is Arkham Horror. We used to play that about once a month, but as the guy who owns it moved approx 100 miles away, it makes it a little difficult.

Descent is great for 2-5 people. You can just play missions or pick up Road to Legend to run a campaign.

You need to make it clear to the players that the game is not about clearing the dungeon, but about reaching the end of the map.
Also, that the Overlord is not a Dungeon Master. He should be actively trying to kill the players. That is his winning condition.

My group runs games of Descent when we get everyone. When a few don't show up, we break out Munchkin and Cutthroat Caverns.
These games handle up to 6 people and the games do not usually take too long.

We also play FFG's DOOM on occasion. We have the base game and expansion, which added multiplayer.
We have only run this game as a multiplayer Death Match and it is great fun.
This also allows up to 6 players.
