500-point Blood Angles –vs- Necrons
WraithgodSchmity experimenting with Blood Angles
1 - Brother Corbulo
2 – Death Company w/Chainswords
1 – Rhino w/2 Storm Bolters
5 – Assault Squad w/Chainswords, Sergeant had combat shield
10 – Tactical Squad w/ flamer, missile launcher

Myself with Necrons
1 – Lord w/Destroyer body and Warscythe
10 – Warriors
10 – Warriors

I think Wraithgod likes to propose 500 point test battles, with legal army lists, versus my Necrons because he knows there is pretty much only one legal Necron loadout. Usually I bring a resurrection orb, but this time I surprised him with the destroyer body and warscythe. Normally, such a battle wouldn’t deserve a report but although poor Wraithgod made a few mistakes, his dice rolling was cursed!

Deployment was pitched battle annihilation. The blood angles won the toss and set up 12” from the center in the middle of the table. Corbulo and the death company were in the rhino which was flanked by the other squads. The tactical squad was split into two groups with the missile launcher and flamer in separate groups. I set up 12” from center about 30 inches from the flank with the assault marines behind some cover in case he started making krak shots with the missile launcher. The two warrior units were side-by-side with the lord attached to one squad. I refused to try to take the initiative.

Turn 1
Blood Angles
Everyone but the missile squad surged forward. The assault squad ran a bit as well. The rhino’s turbo charged engines worked nicely. The rhino tried shooting my warriors. The warriors made the saves they needed. The missile scattered off target.
Necrons
The Lord moved up 12 inches. The warriors opened up at range. Wraithgod was just out of rapid fire range. I knocked down one assault marine, but Corbulo’s exsanguinator saved him. The lord assaulted the assault squad and killed a marine.

Turn 2
Blood Angles
Rhino surged forward again right up next to a warrior squad. Missile missed again. Wraithgod had Corbulo and the two death squad get out and I reminded him that he couldn’t assault after getting out of a moving vehicle. He wasn’t used to vehicle rules. I let him move Corbulo to cover behind the Rhino rather than face 40 gauss shots. 5 marines joined the assault squad attacking the lord and benefited from a furious assault due to Corbulo. They wounded the lord. The lord was pissed, rolling double 1s for morale test.
Necrons
The warriors moved out of assault range from Corbulo, immobilized, stunned and knocked a storm bolter off the rhino. Nothing happened in marine on lord assault.

Turn 3
Blood Angles
Corbulo decided to rescue his assault mired units. He put another wound on the Lord, the lord killed two more assault marines. Corbulo almost panicked (rolled 9 on required 9). The assault marines and combat squad panicked and ran for the hills 13 and 12 inches respectively. The Necron lord had spooked them! The missile launcher hit a few warriors but failed to hurt anyone.
Necrons
The warriors adjusted position in expectation of the lord’s death, then shot up the rhino some more since it was the only thing in range. It wasn’t destroyed but had no weapons left. Assault resulted in no damage.

Turn 4
Blood Angles
The missile launcher knocked down two warriors. The assault squad and combat squad rejoined the assault. The necron lord killed another assault marine. Corbulo, and the combat squad ran off a few inches, leaving a lone assault guy. Truly the terrifying lord had the blood angles shaking in their power boots!
Necrons
One of the two warriors got back up. The warriors shot up the combat squad. I believe a marine died. Corbulo’s exsanguinator saved at least one. The lord killed the last assault marine three times over! The lord was enjoying himself so much he almost forgot to move out.

Turn 5
Blood Angles
A krack missile nailed the lord but he shrugged it off. The combat squad flamed and shot up the lord. He laughed! Corbulo made a pisol shot and the ever confident lord went down! That .
Necrons
The necron lord was in no mood for death. He got up, gave the marines a cold glare and moved behind the rhino. This is what the warriors were waiting for. Finally, they opened up on Corbulo’s squad. Their armor and the exsanguinator ensured no lasting damage. The lord was so disgusted he took it out on the rhino resulting in a massive explosion. No necrons were hurt in the blast.

Turn 6
Blood Angles
A krack missile hit the lord again and once again he shrugged it off. The combat squad and Corbulo’s squad flamed and shot up the warriors. Two warriors went down. The combat squad assaulted. Corbulo’s squad got hung up in difficult terrain. Assault resulted in no damage.
Necrons
A warrior got back up. The lord maneuvered behind the combat squad. The free warrior squad shot up Corbulo’s squad again. They dealt his squad a total of 5 unsaved wounds. Aha, die you living upstarts! Oh, an ensanguinator and 2 FNPs later and all I got was the 2 wounds on Corbulo. The lord assaulted the combat squad and killed one marine. The warriors and marines did nothing.

Game over
Blood Angels got nothing. A grand total of two necron warriors.
Necrons got two kill points with the rhino and assault squad. The lord was a terrifying creature of battle. He alone, simultaneously took on Brother Corbulo, 2 death company marines, 5 assault marines and a 5 man combat squad. He wiped out the assault squad and twice caused two squads of marines to run off in panic! And while taking a quick breather, blew up a rhino in a fit of pique.

Those Necron Lord ARE terrorfying! and I could so seem them actually taking on those marines like you depicted. I'm just surprised that only 2 Necron warriors fell. Marines should be better than that! :O

By the Emperor, we've won!

ATSKNF and fearless are not identical. Space marines can and will panic. ATSKNF guarantees that understrength squads can regroup and guarantees that they cannot be swept.

Don't know what your friend was doing, I used to play blood angels heavily, I never came close ever to loosing to Necrons at ant points level, assualt and power weapons from turn 2 on phase out turn 3 or 4.

His plan was pretty much as you say. Assault on turn 2 and phase me out. I could see that coming when he proposed the game. What scrambled his plans was when I took the assault to his main assault squad. I was simply hoping for a few turn delay and maybe even kill a few. Only 50% of his attacks would hit, and then he has to roll a 6 to wound, then the lord only has to roll a 3+ to save. If I did my mathhammer correctly, that's <3% chance to knock a wound off the lord and the lord has 3 wounds and after that a WBB. In the post-game analysis, I think he should have left the assault squad to tie up the lord, and tried assaulting the warriors with all three remaining squads. Since his vehicle was immobilized and the assault squad was in combat, he would have to endure a minimum of 60 gauss shots to do that, resulting in at least one squad wiped out. He also correctly surmised, from my positioning, that my plan was to do a leapfrog retreat which would get me more than the minimum 60 shots. It also would have delayed assault to turn 4 at earliest. He wanted that assault squad to jump in and tie up a warrior squad before it could rapid-fire or get away. If he had done the mathhammer ahead of time, maybe he wouldn't have tried to rescue that squad.

For future games, I suggested he try two assault squads in rhinos with the HQ and death company in a rhino and maybe he'll have enough points left over for one or two power weapons. Likely two rhinos would get their units into assault unscathed.

Nice batrep.
I had a ba vs necron battle yesterday and its fair to say you are much better than me.

Cheese Elemental-Love does not bloom in 40k. Love burns. It gets turned inside out, set on fire, raped, shot with bolters, and beaten with a crowbar.

I'm curious as to why the missle launcher only chose to do frag rounds instead of Krak as to insure instant death, other than that very heart warming to see my fellow soulless automatons giving out the pain

Good Batrep. Agreeing with the Frag over Krak, it'll keep those Zombie robots from getting back.

Also, my company shall be lead in a prayer at the heroic loss of your men.

Very amusing little battle report - I much much prefer low points battles to high, always a barrel of laughs.
