Imperial Guard + Tyranids
vs.
Space Marines + Tau

Part 1: The Devourer of Worlds
Alisdra VII, a world of plenty. Centered at the heart of a large star system hidden far in the Eastern Fringe, it is home to a massive abundance of life, along with an unwavering loyalty to the emperor. Until the Tyranids struck. A splinter fleet coming in from below the galactic plane, its warp presence blocking off communication with the Imperium. The guard fought valiantly, but they were soon overwhelmed.

Inside one of the asteroids that circle this system, a machine was found. It was black and green, and pulsed with strange warp energies. The miners brought the artifact to the planetary governor, and he activated the machine a last-ditch attempt to save his world. A massive resonance rippled across the planet, and destroyed every single human phsyker on the planet. The Tyranids slowly stopped attacking, until they were simply standing there, waiting for instructions.

Over time, an alliance was formed, between Tyranid and man. Tyranids would help protect Alisdra VII from invaders, and in return several planets were given to the Tyranids for Bio-gruel. However, the Tyrannic spore clouds left their marks on this system; the natural flora grows so fast that not even the Tyranids could hope to destroy it all. Despite this, though, there was peace.

Its just way too much of a stretch for the Imperial Guard to ally with xenos, and for the Tyranids to ally with, well, anyone. Firstly, I don't think there's any way for tyranids and humans to communicate, plus Tyranids don't bargain. They consume, and consume, and consume. Everything.

Tyranids could have possible taken control over the guard using parasites etc ?

A warp tainted machine once used would attract the attention of chaos. It would make more sense for the action to be between Guard and Chaos vs Marines and Tau.

You need to come up with a reason why the machine was used; how did the planetary government know what the machine would do - there must have been someone present who worked out that the machine would cut the Nids link with the hive mind.

How about this: an Inquisitor with knowledge he (or she) shouldn't possess knew the potential of the machine and convinced the people in charge that it could save them.
The machine does its job, the link is severed and the Nids don't know what to do as the machine also destroyed the ability of the brood lords to carry on the hive mind's mission; the human psykers were all killed though except for a couple of A class psykers who were left as blank as the Nid leaders.

The victory is celebrated but what the people don't realise is that the Nids and psykers have been possessed by creatures of the warp. The psykers who survive appear to wake up and tell how the Nids can be used to defend the planet. Others also have been possessed, chief amongst these are the navigators who were flying in low orbit and those on the ground when the machine was used.

Too late to stop the planet from becoming corrupted by chaos, ships in higher orbit alerted to the danger by their own navigators flee and warn the sub sector authorities.

How the Tau become involved, Emperor only knows.

Maybe the chaos controlled Nids and psykers are able to work out how to control people using biotechnology similar to that used by genestealers to take over the military and civilian leadership and then start infecting everyone from the top down.

It isn't warp tainted. It is necron tainted.

AGH! KRYPTONITE!

Agreed. Maybe a (Necron/Warp?) person?

No. Not all Imperial citizens are dogma-possessed. They think the Imperium abandoned them.

Not addressing the rest, it will be covered. Thank you for responding!

Not allyed. controlled. I would just like an excuse to field Tyranids and Guard.

Replace Tyranids? No! The Tyranids is what makes it interesting!
Note for everybody: The Tyranids aren't allying with the Gaurd, they're being controlled by the machine.

Tyranids and a Genestealer cult could be interesting...
If I were a Guardsmen, I wouldn't trust the Carnifex beside me, regardless of what they told me.

Well, would you trust an elephant with a gun on its head? That's how they treat Tyranids. The Great Devourer has become engrained in their culture, to the point where they are like animals to the population.

No, I wouldn't trust an elephant with a gun on it's head...but I understand your point.

An Elephant with a gun on its head....with a gun pointed at the back of its head?

A well-trained animal is much more effective than one threatened with force...they don't register fear in the same ways that we do as humans.

Yon elephant got me thinking. The guard hollow the Nids out, put in some machinery and hey presto, nid sentinals or whatever counts as you want to use in game. Gaunts could be modified slightly in terms of posture to be guard exo-suits. I don't know about in game rules but fluffwise these suits would give the guard the advantage of nid armour plates and nid close combat weapons, not so sure about the bio-weapons but could probably be worked in.

Or, dare I say it, the nids are used as avatars, can't imagine where that idea came from.

I smell Avatar......
But I like the idea! Although, I don't want the Canrnifex to take the place of the sentinel, as that model is AWESOME. Maybe warriors (with guard riders) as Ogryns?

Ol' Blighty

you could just turn the idea on its head and say the guard were going to die, so in a last-ditch attempt they captured and contained some 'nids and used them in battle by simply releasing them facing toward the enemy.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.
corpsesarefun: Thank god I missed be nice to shrike day.
greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid.

But either way the guards have to make a quick choice. And how would that help save them?

Nids would attack closest non-nids which would be the guard.
