Inquisitor is a miniature based game where each player controls just 3-4 models, and all involved work together to create a cool story while at the same time each attempting to achieve their own designated objective(s). It's usually played using larger models than
40k, but don't let that put you off - most 28mm terrain works perfectly well at 54mm, so you don't need to build a whole new set; and it's still a cheap game to get into - especially if you shop around places like eBay for models.
This article may be of use to you if you are interested in the game;

I'm also very fond of this description of the game from veteran player PrecinctOmega;
'
Inquisitor is a wargame with the brakes off: a bare-back, white-knuckle ride that takes all the bits you like best about tabletop wargames (the rich context, the dark themes, the shock of conflict) and roleplay games (colourful individuals, the fate of the galaxy hanging by a thread, sudden changes of personal fortune in the time it takes to pull a trigger) and throws them into a single package. It's like a cooperative novel and a competitive action movie rolled up into one thing. It's wargaming for poets. It's falling to your knees in a sea of corpses, an empty stubber in one hand and a bloody chainsword in the other, screaming "If this is heresy, it feels SO GOOD!"'
If there's anything else I can help with, let me know - I've been playing for a few years now and have a pretty good collection of characters. I may also be able to point you in the direction of some players - we've got a list of players and their locations here;

They're mainly in the
UK, but there's a chance there'll be someone in your area.
