Okay, so I have decided to use this scheme for my DIY chapter (fluff perhaps coming soon)
The theme is, forge world, i.e. dark metal and brass, so the brown = dwarven brass.
The metallic colours are to be toned down with a black wash btw.
General fluff:
Close links to forge world (It is NOT their homeworld though.)
F-World gets invaded and the chapter is forced to drive out the enemy (tbd).
So without further ado...
Body, Torso, Legs, Arms, Shoulders etc - boltgun metal - highlighted with chainmail
Trim - Dwarven bronze
Black wash (Badab)
What do y'all think?

I think it would be cool if you painted one of the arms bronze, and the rest of the body silver with the bronze trim, perhaps paint the helmet bronze as well?

Hmmm, that sounds interesting, why should I do that, I'm not that up to date with the fluff is it an aestetic (sp?) choice, or does it denote something?
Cheers

Avoid entirely metallics. Always have at least one matte colour to balance out the rest of the mini. It doesn't have to take up as much space as the metallics, but it has to be enough to be noticable. Otherwise, I find metallics tend to look really cheap.

Well I was concerned about it looking chavvish and gaudy, but I thought that picking a toned down color like bronze would help with this, and the black wash would help to dull some of the sparkle.
What matte do you suggest? I suppose that I could do a tactical mark in matte, but I just cant see it being nice looking. The purity seals would be matte, as would the eyes. I wanted a baroque, dark and grim armour, and I figured that matte grey wouldnt do.
I might be open to some matte, but I want a forge world look, for camouflage look in old factories etc, but still dark.

One example is that for my Grey Knights, which are primarily metallic, they have dark red underneath their shoulder armour and dark red shields. It helps to balance out the entire miniature. Painting a shoulder piece or a simple detail a contrasting colour is good enough.

Change of plans. My new scheme is as follows.
Base-coat - Gretchin Green, then Thraka green wash.
Markings - Astronomicon grey, then Skull white.
Trim- Bronze.
My new question is - this looks a lot like the salamanders army. Is there anything I can do to change it a bit, I do really like the green though so I dont want to change that. Also, If I did have to use it as salamanders, are their any specific rules to follow, or could I pick any normal SM units?
My preferred fighting style is at range, so any tips would be appreciated.
