There are obviously MANY solid WH40K websites and blogs out there- are there any good ones for Warmachine that someone new to the game(such as me) should be sure to check out?

There's an Iron Kingdoms blog network on the Iron Agenda website. I guess that's as a good place to start as any

http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/ This is by far the best site I have come across so far, though Malfred's summaries here on Dakka are looking like they may be top of the line too

I discovered tinman_xl because he posts here on dakka. I think his videos have a lot of charm for whatever reason.

Pffft, he's a lazy poster. He just posts whatever he does here on the forums and in the
articles and then copy pastas it to his blog. Lazy bum.

http://searforge.blogspot.com used to be a good one, but the blogger gave up with MkII. Edit: I take that back. He is apparently considering keeping it going. I hope he does. Rhulics rule.

Not to TOTALLY DERAIL the thread or anything but did many give up with MkII? If so, why?

I don't think that many jumped ship. The Warmachine Mk2 rulebook is PP's best selling publication ever. So either lots of people made the transition or new people buying in are outpacing those who are done.
|
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

if people give up during a new edition then i think that strengthens the community. its just weeding out the weak.
if anything, MK2 has brought more players into the game at my LGS, especially with the apparent dislike for GW lately in my area*
(* this is an observation from my local LGS, its not a poke at the GW fanboys, keep your flames elsewhere)

For me, it seemed like a good time to get into it because (I assume) a few years' worth of rule controversies would be settled and even vets would be learning, to some extent, along with me.
@StudderingDave: My (F?)LGS seems to have a thing against GW and only sells 40k. The rest of the wargaming side of the store is filled with WH/H stuff. Their display cabinets have some 40k stuff, but it's more a reliquary (some arbites, BFG fleets, there are even some squats!) than an advertisement, plus it's not even all 40k in there. The other case is all WM/H. I once asked the owner why he didn't carry LotR, expecting to hear "no one buys it. ever." but instead heard "GW stabbed me in the back and I don't even want to carry 40k." So I wouldn't be surprised if one of the selling points of WM/H is lack of love for GW--on the part of store owners not just players.
