So, I've put together a 35 pt Cygnar list, and I'm curious what people think of it's competitiveness. I've only played a handful of small games, but would like to try out the following:

Haley
---Stormclad
Stormblades

Arcane Tempest Gun Mages w/ Officer
---Hunter

Arlan Strangewayes
---Defender

Despite some changes between the final field test rules and the new cards (Stormclad costs 10 now, gun mages are only 6 pts but also only 10" range), I think it should do alright.

I'm essentially getting 4 focus for free every turn (2 'marshals, 1 from stormclad/stormblade synergy, 1 from strangewayes), and with only 1 'jack to worry about, Haley can keep Temporal Field up and still load the stormclad up with 3 focus (or 2 and arcane shield upkeep). The idea is to use the gun mages, defender, and hunter to engage enemies at 12"+ ranges and hammer them with ranged attacks while they try and close under Temporal Field. When they do, they'll have a serious amount of lightning-based killy waiting. Or if I'm facing an army I can't outgun, the 'clad/blades can rush while the rest of the army supports. A defender slam/headbutt followed by Arlan's disruption spray seems extremely effective at mitigating heavy 'jacks that make it through my guns or around the melee contingent. If faced with non-shieldwall infantry, the Defender/Strangewayes combo can also utilize the free strike free trample.

I'm not sure there's enough to handle a very infantry-heavy style of army, but the gun mages are more than a match for most, ignoring stealth and cover with RAT7. Combined with a Dead Eye from Haley, they can critical brutal shot and make a serious mess of light 'jacks as well (bonejacks, I'm looking at you!)

So what do you guys think? Maybe a little wide-reaching of an army, but it's got something for everyone and gives me lots of options. I'm still mad about that stupid 10 point Stormclad though

When you start getting a focus every turn for free from the storm blades and womp people with that P+S 19 weapon, the 10 points won't seem so bad.

I think it's a very cool army. Some people might question not having an arc node with Haley, but I think you're doing something different enough that might not matter.

If I saw this army across the table, I'd be a bit worried. Here's what I'd do:

Kill strangeways. A defender that boosts it's attack and also has a focus to boost damage = scary. He dies ASAP. So definitely think about protecting him.

Stormclad is slam bait. 6 point heavy? 10 point heavy? They all slam the same. So definitely watch lighter jacks/beasts that can be allocated focus/forced within slam distance of it. The Stormclad's focus efficiency goes away quite quickly when he doesn't start close enough to the Storm Blades and has to spend one to shake to get up. And I don't believe there's much in your army to make things so they can't be knocked down. Temporal Barrier and disruption is your friend here. They'll pretty much completely shut down the threat power attacks are to the Storm Clad.

Kill Haley. It's a lower model count army, so other than Temporal Barrier (curse you Haley!) messing things up, it shouldn't be that hard to eventually get a bead on her.

I think it'll do fantasically. Looks like a lot of fun too.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Depends on what type of games are you going to play. If it's plain casterkill it may work. In case of any scenario type (especially SR2010) you may have hard time trying to capture control zones. Most of your army has to keep their distance from enemy so all you have to capture control zones are 6 SB's & Stormclad. If I had to fight with my Cryx against such army I'll concentrate on killing SB's and neutralizing Stormclad (not that hard) and than gladly accept any losses from your shooting to win on scenario conditions.

From playing everblight and finding it difficult to dislodge heavy warjacks from control zones, I've generally found that all you really have to do is deny them a scenario victory until you can get the caster kill.

The defender is probably one of the most underestimated melee fighters in the game. If you need it to rush in and womp, it can do so. Gun mages are also very frustrating in close combat. I think the list will do alright in scenario play.

And what makes them so frustrating if I may ask? They may have high DEF but I can't see them doing too much with POW 7 swords... And, while engaged they can't shoot unless under eCaine.

It's the high def. If you're in a scenario and you need them to be dead to control a point, getting that 15 isn't always easy. If they're engaging the right thing, you won't necessarily have something with high MAT or the ability to boost nearby.

The last time I fought them, I engaged them with running Risen and shot the Risen in the back with my Sea Dog Deck Guns.
