As a new player I was wondering if you vets could tell me why Retribution(lore, mini pics, etc.) are absent from the MKII rulebook? I figured they would be listed as a faction in MKII.

Brand new and got their own book. The summary is on p.95.

On the same note, why do you need a faction rulebook if all the info you need is on the cards?

I understand that they have their own book, but isn't the MKII rule book newer than that one? I thought it odd that all the major factions are detailed with profiles of characters, history, many pages of units, pictures of many models, ertc- but Retribution is virtually absent.

They stuck mostly with what was in Prime. As you can see, no Magnus. Also, the Retribution (outside
of Eiryss) doesn't really play into the storyline until Zerkova and Goreshade piss them off.

You don't need a faction rulebook at all.

Do the new Mk2 decks have the cards for the shiny new models that come in the faction books? I am under the impression that the cards for the new models are not included in the decks.

No. The decks are intended to upgrade existing collections.

Yes, I know that new models have the cards, but what I was aiming at was that is another reason to get the book as it contains all of the stats and rules.

That's one thing that really attracted me to Warmachine in the first place was that all the rules for all the factions could be found in one book, once a year.

With that, this year really honks me off. You mean to get all of the new rules for all of the factions, I have to buy 12 books this year? Suck.

You don't have to. It's a bad year to want just one book, though.

I printed out all the cards for the factions I don't play from the 'final' release PDF.

I'm from the future. The future of space

There are some tweaks from the PDFs to the final cards. Any any release made after Legends isn't in them, but they're certainly a good reference point for being familiar with factions you don't play.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

The Retribution book only came out a few months ago, and was designed with MKII in mind, so it doesn't need updated.

Any word on how long the Mark II faction decks will be available? I'm guessing that just like the Mk I color decks, they'll go out of print at some point.

As a newbie, would I be better off getting the Menoth faction book or the faction cards?

Depends on are you willing to wait to April, as the cards are available now, but the book will come in mid-April. The book has every unit that will be available this year for Menoth, the deck has only the cards for those figs, which were available last year. I will get both for my Cygnar.

My local play group has all the factions covered so we will probably borrow faction books for factions other than our own. I am going to get a Protectorate book as that's my only WM faction but I'm debating on whether to get the Merc book since I only have a few models and don't even use them that much. Eventually I'd like to own all the force books but not right away.
