Many PC games come with numerous fan-made mods out there that add things to the game that the developers couldn't. So, Dakka-ites, what are your favorite mods and maps for the games you play?
My favorites are the various Dawn of War mods for 40k. I'm currently having a blast playing with the ultra-cheesy Tau Expansion mod, as well as the Inquisition Daemonhunt (Though the Inquisition are not an easy faction to play, having no real defenses other than massed Stormtroopers until you get to Grey Knights). Outside of DoW, I'm also greatly enjoying two fantastic Portal map packs - Portal: Prelude and Portal: Flash Edition.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

C&C 3: slowed is lots of fun, though it breaks alot of missions and it makes the computer more powerful than I like in Skirmish.
Obviously there are the now-commercial mods (CS and Gerry's Mod) which are great. Personally I just want my bloody Black Mesa: Source. want...so bad... Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (jeez that is a pain to write) has some great graphics update mods...if you have a pimipin GFX card...

In a Society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not", the individual can practise a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason", he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else.

I don't remember the name of the mod but it was for either Doom 1 or 2... I forget which one... it replaced elements in the game with USMC elements... it mostly was just sounds and sprites changed out but it seemed to make the game more fun for some reason.
2nd to that was another Doom mod that replaced sprites and some sound files again for some more 'extreme' things... like 'Wolverine' claws instead of the chainsaw
Actually... do they count as favorite if they're they only mods I've tried?

Anybody else use Firestorm over Kronus? I love that one. So much detail went into it. Only problem I had was that I only really know the Tau and Space Marine codices (And I could probably bumble my way through the Chaos codex).
