Why does every 40K book I read have the same plot?!?! Oh look there's an Inquisitor/High powered good guy, oh crap he's gone rogue, huge Imperial on Imperial fight losing many innocent lives. Just gets boring. What was wrong with a straight fight? Why is every other person a Heretic to their own cause.
Evidence:
Books I've read featuring traitors:
Can anyone give logic to this ridiculous facade? Better question, can you give me some books that DON'T involve Heresy or Rogueness and just involve a straight fight? I'm not one for Happily Ever Afters but plot twists that are double/triple bluffs make for difficult and confusing reading.
In the far future of the 41st Millenium there are only repeated plots.

This may be due to the authors thinking: Well...straightforward battle...phew, that's hard to write in an interesting way over 120 pages. I need some cool hideous plan in the shadows for some alternation.
Really, I see your point and have thought along the same way at least once or twice. It's probably easier for some writers to create the generic "this guy is a traitor!" subplot than to come up with cool turns and twists in the straightforward battle - gate blown up by lucky shot, squad commander sniped down, squad panics, some kommandos apperaing behind the lines...I'd agree that sometimes, more of action like this would be nice.

I'm glad I'm not alone but what I'm saying is the whole book needn't be one huge battle. A series of engagements against a straight enemy with bits holding it together would be far more interesting from my point of view.

Thanks, will do.
EDIT: Having said that, the last book in the Omnibus is called 'Traitor's Hand'.....?

Ciaphas Cain -HILARIOUS and EPIC
The Last Chancers - LOLHUGE amounts of grimdark, awesome stories, interesting characters, also ARMAGEDDON
15 Hours - all around an awesome story (filled with grimdark)
Lord of the Night - fun with Night Lords, and JUST AS PLANNED
Let the Galaxy Burn - lots of awesome short stories, including The Wrath of Kharn, which documents Kharn having super happy fun time

The reason is, despite the aliens and such, heretics and traitors are actually the largest threat to the Imperium. We get a skewed view because other than CSMs, we've got no other traitors on the table top, like we used to with the Lost and the Damned. But fluffwise, the largest concern is betrayal and heresy.

I'd say that the "OMG they've gone rogue" plot is used quite often by sub-par books.

You should read more of Gaunt's Ghosts. After the first omnibus they have some great straight up fights (to be sure, there's traitors and backstabbery, but it's not the main point).

I'd just like to know why Black Library has such an aversion to stories about something other than the Imperium. It'd be nice to see some decent books (Or even lousy ones) telling a story from a different side. I'd love to see a book about the Eldar and the schism between them and the Dark Eldar when Slaanesh was born. Even if it is about heresy and betrayal, some more stories from a Chaos point of view might be fun (Granted, we do have the Horus Heresy, which does include a lot of insights into Chaos and the birth of the CSM). I'd also love to see a novel telling all about the Damocles Gulf Crusade from the point of view of the Tau.
And yes, I know that there are some novels featuring other races, but the vast majority is about the Imperium in some way, shape or form.

I see what you're saying but it doesn't mean the only thing the Imperium fights is Heretics.

Ok will check that out for sure.

I've read the Second Omnibus as well. Don't get me wrong. I love Gaunt's Ghosts. Perhaps my favoutie series.

I agree, but I am an IG player so i don't really mind either way.
