So, I was at my FLGS without my ork Army (long Story) so I decided to try out a new army... Tau.

I played a 1000 point game with the following list;

Hq: 162
01 Shas'o:Airbrushing Fragmentation Projector, Fusion Blaster, Hard Wired Multi Tracker, Shield Generator
02 Shield Drone
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Troop: 496
10 Fire Warriors: Pulse Rifle
Shas'ui: Pulse Rifle, Emp Grenade
02 Shield Drones
Devil Fish:Burst Cannon, Gun Drones, Sensor Spines, Disruption Pods, Flechette Discharger, Landing Gear

10 Fire Warriors: Pulse Rifle
Shas'ui: Pulse Rifle, Emp Grenade
02 Shield Drones
Devil Fish:Burst Cannon, Gun Drones, Sensor Spines, Disruption Pods, Flechette Discharger, Landing Gear
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elite: 132
04 Stealth Suits: Burst Cannon
Shas'vre: Fusion Blaster,Target Lock
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fast Attack:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heavy Support: 210
01 Hammerhead: Railgun, Smart Missile System, Sensor Spines, Disruption Pods, Flechette Discharger, Target Lock, Multi tracker, Targeting Array, Landing Gear

I had a lot of fun, despite being new to the Tau, I felt the army was quite intuitive, as you use your superior firepower and speed to negate your opponent's strengths.

I played against the following Necron list
Hq:
01 Necron Lord: Resurrection Orb, Phylactery
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Troop:
10 Necron Warrior
10 Necron Warrior
10 Necron Warrior
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elite:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fast Attack:
05 Swarm
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heavy Support:
01 Monolith

I deployed out of his range in a corner, his army was spread out (so he could "hit me" no matter where I deployed.)

I spent the first few rounds staying out of range, harassing his unit of Necron Warriors with the lord with burst cannons slowly whittling them down... I kept on the pressure with my Hammerhead's Rail Gun, punching the monolith but not doing anything.

His swarm turbo boosted again toward my devilfishes only for me to turbo boost away. My Shas'o came in the second turn and I fired my AirFrag and dealt 5 wounds... I continued to harry his units with superior range... Lots of Fun

hey now... just because it's not an MEQ killing weapon doesn't mean you get to insult it and say it just spray paints!

battle reports are a hit or miss thing with getting responses. i'd recommend maybe doing a turn by turn recap of what happened and also of posting pics (or at least vassal map representations) of the game. welcome to the greater good!

Um, since when do fishes turbo boost? They can not move as fast vehicles, only shoot as fast with the mutlitracker.

Agreed. For your lower point games, I would suggest dropping the Stealthy's and adding some suits and not take soo many options on your fishes.

Save a ton of points. You don't want to let opponent get close enough for all that extra stuff to come into play

Thanks, I took the earlier advice, dropped the stealth suits, and the flechette launchers while trading the shield drones for the warriors for more warriors, to make room for another hammerhead with a railgun... the results were fantastic during a three on three as the opposing army's biggest gun was a demolisher cannon with a puny 24" range (30' if you count moving).

They never even stood a chance...

10 model count unit as the 'ui is an upgrade, not a separate model and the 2 shield drones = 12 models which the devilfish can hold.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

yeah... his seer counsel squad gave me a lot of trouble... my army would have more than likely been wiped if it were not for the Necron payer taking a Monolith in a 1000 point game.

Bugs whittled down blood angels: viceversa
Tau Whittled down (quickly) ultramarines (he Learned a valuable lesson in army building)
Necrons dealt very little damage but relatively unscathed.

End result: Bugs and Angels, out of the game.
Predicted result: Seer counsel whittling down Tau army by chasing them around
Predicted result: With the demolisher Cannon gone... very little to stand up to 30 warriors and a monolith.

Do you not have Broadsides? Broadsides would have had a better chance of popping the Monolith, with 3 railgun shots for the same price as compared to 1.

Oh and welcome to the Greater Good.
