The hurriedly mustered force of the beseiged Eldar Craftworld sped towards the edges of their wraithbone halls in sleek skimmers as the ominous sights of Tyranid invasion became apparent on the horizon. The sky was black as the Hive Fleet loomed above, and even now the great Farseer Eldrad Eldren could see the fell, mishapen bio-constructs of the Tyranids pierce the artificial atmosphere surrounding the star-world. Taking a quick check of the forces he had at his command, Eldren was shocked as a massive Carnifex leapt from the shadows, right onto the Wave Serpent containing his Guardian export. The night-black thing tore the wraithbone construct asunder as its own body was blown apart beyond all repair - though the Tyranid was quite literally dead, some greater force was obviously driving the pieces of its torn body together and only when every gun in his armada was trained on it did it finally cease its relentless assault. Edren narrowed his eyes. This was the work of a greater beast. As his personal cruiser docked and moved from the battlefield and his Wraithlord uncurled from stasis, the Farseer's Warlock bodyguards fell with him to the ground as a massive alien howl shook the air. Eldrad saw the Tyrant-beast and its hordes of skittering Gaunts, but stood his ground. In the Wave Serpents behind him were two squads of the finest Aspect Warriors of Eldeen, prepared to give their lives to stay the horde. Eldrad drew his witchblade and shouldered the Staff of Eldramar. The battle had begun.

Starting Set-up/Positioning:

Terrain:
There was a large castle in the middle of the battlefield. With buildings either side, one impassable, one with a huge stairwell. To the North, some trees, a rotting carcass and an impassable building. To the South there was a barricade and another carcass.

Eldar Deployment:
In the South-East corner, a Wave Serpent with Dire Avengers inside next to the 2 Walkers and Eldrad and his Warlock bodyguard accompanied by the Wraithlord. To the South-West corner was a Falcon with the Fire Dragons inside next to a Wave Serpent with Wraithguard with a Warlock inside.

Tyranid Deployment:
In the North-East corner, were the Hormagaunts, Termagants and Venomthrope all covered by the Spore Cloud. Next to them in a more central position on the battlefield was the Tervigon. In the North-West corner was the Tyrannofex and the Zoanthrope. In front of them all, the Tyranid Prime and his bodyguards and the Hive Tyrant along with his Tyrant Guard.
Everything not mentioned above was in reserve or in a transport.

The Eldar won the roll to go first. The Tyranids failed to Seize the Initiative. The Rangers infiltrated into the building with the stairwell.

Eldar Turn 1:

The elegant grav-tanks of the Eldar zoomed around the battlefield with grace and precision, moving so fast all that was seen of them was a blur. However, before they could train their weapons on the oncoming horde, a grotesque beast, covered in gas-bladders and wielding four envenomed tentacles, let loose a massive cloud of spore-dust that shielded the small creatures within its bubble. However, the Eldar were not fooled by this poisonous cloud's cover. The Rangers took steady aim as they arrived at their sniping positions before swiftly taking out the Hormagaunts in sight from within the cloud of gas and dust. "Be wary my men," one such Ranger said, "that cloud is not the beasts' best trick. Be sure of that."

Eldrad repositioned the South-East Wave Serpent to the South-West. All tanks moved behind the castle, moving 24” each. The Wraithlord, Eldrad and his Warlocks and the War Walkers all clumped together moved forward 6”.
The Rangers shot at the Hormagaunts, killing 3 of them but failing to pin luckily for the Tyranids. Eldrad fortuned the Wraithlord as a precaution.

Tyranid Turn 1:
The Tyranids were undaunted by their early losses - after all, for every Eldar corpse consumed a dozen Hormogaunts could be crafted - and they advanced as such. The mighty Tervigon, grotesque bulk oozing slime from birth-pods in its sides, opened its chest while pouring out almost a dozen Termagants. However, the Hive Mind had made one miscalculation - the Tervigon was all but spent on Gaunt larvae due to the beginning strike which had crushed Eldeen's earlier defences, and finally ran dry as it birthed its last. Roaring in anger, the ponderous beast flat-out charged towards the wraithbone construct that held the Rangers, intent on making them into new larvae. The Hive Tyrant, also hungry for blood, readied its mighty Heavy Venom Cannon and, even though the envenomed crystals were slightly off-target, ended up massacring two. The Tyranid Prime, with his synaptic bodyguards, set its cunning eyes on the mighty Wraithlord containing the soul of a mighty Eldar warrior, felled fighting a similar creature. With a strange emnity in its eyes, it slashed its boneswords in the air, and through the scope of his Eldar Long Rifle, a nearby Ranger swore he could see it growl a false mockery of a laugh.

The Tervigon spawned 11 Termagant but rolled a double. No more spawning for him.
Everything moved 6” forward. The Hive Tyrant fired its Heavy Venom Cannon at my Rangers scattering 3” South-West but still hitting 3. Two wounded and amazingly both 3+ cover saves were failed. 2 Rangers down. The Warriors ran 5”. The Tervigon ran 3”. The Termagants he spawned ran 1”. The Tyrannofex ran 4”. The Zoanthrope ran 3”. The Hormagaunts ran 5”. The Termagants ran 2” and the Venomthrope ran 3”

Eldar Turn 2:
After getting a great perspective of the battlefield, the graceful Swooping Hawks flew down, unloading a flurry of grenades ontop of unsuspecting Termagants before descending down to discuss strategy with Eldrad. The Tervigon snapped its head round with a growl of pure anger and confusion with a strange maternal instinct engraved in its bestial brain. Whatever had caused such a blast was not something to be taken lightly. It sought out to crush the cause and yelled out a cry of encouragement to its newly formed children. Eldrad had seen what the Swooping Hawks had done and immediatley commended them and ordered them to return the the skies and when the time is right, descend again with another flurry of grenades. If the Eldar were to be able to defend the Tyranid hordes they would need an element of surprise. Two could play at the Tyranids game of trickery.
After reloading, the Rangers set about firing another volley of sniper fire and for a moment even the Hive Mind faltered in the Gaunts as it could not protect them from the psychological effect from a sniper bullet. The Hormagaunts fell about in gibbering messes, closely followed by their cousins in the Termagants who fell victim to a mighty blast of plasma from the Wraithlords Missile Launcher, causing the Termagants to also fall to the ground in fright of the surprise hits they were receiving. This act of cowardice cost them a moments movement which proved vital.

The Swooping Hawks arrived at the back of the Eldar army but still utilised there Swooping Hawk Grenade packs, killing 4 Termagants spawned by the Tervigon. They then Skyleaped straight back up still in the movement phase (yes they can do this – it says so in the Eldar FAQ). The Wraithlord, Eldrad and his Warlocks and the War Walkers moved forward 6”. All the vehicles stayed behind the cover of the castle.
The Rangers shot at the Hormagaunts again, this time pinning them down so the Hormagaunts went to ground having failed their leadership test. The Wraithlord fired a Plasma Missile Launcher shot, killing one Termagant and they too failed their pinning test so went to ground.

Tyranid Turn 2:
As Eldreen marched forward, brandishing his legendary weapon at the enemy, he suddenly felt a minor disturbance in the ground that a human would never have noticed. The sound became louder and louder - and crechendoed as a massive serpentine monster burst from the ground in a burst of crushed wraithbone. The Trygon brandished all six of its talons and slowly shifted its great mass, charging up static electricity. The grand serpent brought its whole body inwards and suddenly whipcorded all of its muscles - a feat impossible to any lesser creature - and then released a massive pulse of electricity that shook even Eldrad to his core. Though the lightning was largely ineffective, the War Walker that had been in the epicentre of the electrical attack was left crippled, its left arm short-circuited and completely annihilated and the pilot shaken slightly. The Venomthrope, comically displaying a sense of supervision over the seizing Gaunts, stayed with them, shielding them all from cheap attacks whilst the rest of the swarm moved forwards, the elephantine Tyrannofex thundering at a massive speed while the Zoanthrope nearby used a jolt of psychic energy to boost its cranium forward. The Hive Tyrant and Tyranid Prime exchanged a strange glance and aimed both their bioweapons at the Rangers - however, the crystal-cannon of the Hive Tyrant missed completely and the maggot-like organisms that fuelled the Deathspitters all exploded too early, giving the Rangers an easily dodgeable sprinkling of acid rather than the torrent that was intended.

The Trygon arrived behind the Eldar lines. Everything over than the pinned units and the Venomthrope moved forward 6”.
The Trygon rained fire on the War Walkers, knocking off one Scatter Laser and disabling it from shooting next turn. The Zoanthrope moved on 3” whilst the Tryannofex ran 5”. The Tervigon ran 3” and the Termagants it spawned ran 5”. The Tyranid Warriors failed in shooting the Rangers as they were out of range. The Hive Tyrant also missed the Rangers.

Eldar Turn 3:
The opportune moment arrived for the Swooping Hawks to land once more. As the Tyranids hurried forward they had left their lines vulnerable behind them. Swiftly the Swooping Hawks descended down again throwing some well placed grenades however this time only killing one target. The Striking Scorpions had also seen that their time to arrive onto the battlefield was now and appeared to the Tyranids flank. The Trygon, however, found itself surrounded on all sides nary a minute after it entered the combat fray. The massive leviathan took several shots from the deadly Wraithcannons of the mighty Wraithguard, but the last shot was a killer - on impact it created a massive rift in space-time, casting the Trygon deep into the torment of the Warp with its final scream. The Swooping Hawks, realising that their grenades were not as fortunate as the last ones, fired a volley of Lasblaster shots towards the Termagants, killing 7. With massive screams of anger the Tervigon now knew what was causing the death of his beloved Termagant children and turned to face the Hawks.
Meanwhile, one Wave Serpent let out its Dire Avengers who unloaded all of their ammunition clip into the Tyranids, killing 9 Hormagants. The cloud from the Venomthrope saved a few but not enough to be left with quite little in their arsenal. After another reload the Rangers also let fire at the Hormagaunts, killing nothing however and had wasted their shots. The remaining Termagants to the East flank were quickly and efficiently taken out in a pool of blood and guts as the Striking Scorpions cut them all apart with considerable ease.

The Swooping Hawks this time landed behind Tyranid lines however only took out 1 Termagant with their grenades. The Striking Scorpions outflanked to the East next to his Termagants and Venomthrope. The Falcon and Wave Serpent with Wraithguard in surrounded the Trygon along with Eldrad and the Wraithlord. The other Wave Serpent flew across the castle and all vehicles let out there men: Dire Avengers, Wraithguard with Warlock and Fire Dragons.
The Swooping Hawks killed 7 more Termagants spawned by the Tervigon with Lasblasters and Sunrifle leaving just 1 left. The Wraithguard Instant Deathed the Trygon whilst the Rangers did no damage to the Hormagaunts they fired at. The Dire Avengers Bladestormed to kill 9 Hormagaunts.
The Striking Scorpions wiped out all of the Termagants not spawned by the Tervigon in close combat.

Tyranid Turn 3:
In destroying every single Termagant that the army had started with, the Striking Scorpions had made themselves a massive target. Coated in a pulsing red ichor, nothing registered more to the Tyranid mind than that this was a target they must kill. The remaining Hormogaunts, biting the air with curved blades, laid in on them, as well as the Tyranid Prime and his bodyguard and the toxic Venomthrope. Upon beginning the combat, however, the Scorpions felt their arms bound and legs snared by two pairs of writhing Lash Whips, courtesy of the Venomthrope. As they tried to pull free of the coils, they left themselves incredibly vulnerable, and as such were slaughtered to a mere two. The Exarch's maned helmet lay among the dead warriors, and the Scorpions felt a new wave of anguish as it was devoured by a nearby Hormagaunt. The mighty Tyrannofex readied its rupture cannon, a weapon powerful enough to wrench the dainty Eldar vehicles apart, but the massive implosion was averted at the last second by an incredibly skilled Eldar pilot. The Zoanthrope charged up a large nexus of energy in its cranium, and even the Eldar thought it would focus the incredible psychic energy into a lance to bore through the skimmers in front of it. However, the floating brain instead fired a pulse of raw, unrefined energy, which thankfully missed. The Tervigon unleashed a bulwark of spines towards the Swooping Hawks, a move they had not anticipated, and on impact, they shattered inside the Hawks, reducing their internal organs to a soup as they fell on the ground in front of the Exarch. The beast released a swarm of electrical grubs onto the Exarch, who shrugged them off with ease.

The Hormagaunts moved towards the Striking Scorpions and so too did the Warriors. The Tervigon moved towards the Swooping Hawks behind it.
The Tervigon destroyed all the Swooping Hawks other than the Exarch with pretty lucky Cluster Spine shots. It then used its Electroshock Grubs which did nothing to the Exarch. All shots from the Zoanthrope and Tyrannofex missed, both aimed at the Wave Serpent and Wraithguard respectively.
The Tyrant and its guard killed all but 2 Dire Avengers and the Exarch in close combat whilst the Dire Avengers took 1 wound off of one Tyrant Guard. The Striking Scorpions were whittled down to just 2 in close combat against the Venomthrope, Warriors and Hormaguants and killed none in return.

Eldar Turn 4:
Back into the vehicles for the Eldar. They were much safer there. The Wraithlord, Eldrad and his bodyguard and the War Walkers stood around the hole left by the Trygon. Nothing was coming up their anytime soon. Realising the danger the Tervigon brought to him, the Swooping Hawk Exarch flew back to the skies. He would never be capable of taking on the gigantic beast, not single handedly anyway.
Elsewhere the Tyrannofex was letting out screams of pain as it was fired at with Missile Launchers and Pulse Lasers and Scatter Lasers which did it much harm however it was lucky enough for its regeneration to kick in slightly to ease the pain. Both the Striking Scorpions and Dire Avengers were swiftly finished off as the Rangers again failed to damage a thing.

The Wraithlord and Eldrad with his Warlocks and the Walkers blocked the hole the Trygon made so nothing could get up out of it. The Swooping Hawk Exarch Skyleaped away. The Wraithguard and Fire Dragons re-entered their transports.
3 wounds were taken from the Tyrannofex with massed firepower but it regenerated 1 to be on 2 wounds overall. The Rangers failed to wound the Tervigon.
The Striking Scorpions were wiped out before attacking back because of lash whips and so too were the Dire Avengers against the Tyrant.

Tyranid Turn 4:
The entire mass of Tyranids, battered though they were, advanced forward, the great Hive Tyrant in the front and the Tyranid Prime in the rear. The Tervigon, almost unaware of the one gaunt that still followed it, trudged towards the foe on a warpath. The great ranged-beasts of the Tyranids, scarred though they were, were still unable to damage the forces of the Eldar. The Tyrannofex, angry at not taking down a single mark, raged forward towards the enemy lines, intent on getting one kill. The Tyranids were failing to hit their targets, and the Tyrant realised that this battle was not turning in their favour- they had chosen to forgo Genestealers and had spent too much biomass on the devourers of the Gaunts, who never managed to attack anything with them. With a shake underneath the Rangers, a mighty beast with massive talons rose up from the ground into the building where the Rangers stood and fired darts set into its ribcage to no avail.

Everything moved forward 6”. The Lictor then arrived right infront of my unsuspecting Rangers.
His Lictor fired its Flesh Hooks at the Rangers, doing nothing. The Warriors ran 4”. The Venomthrope ran 4” and the Hormagaunts just 1”. The one remaining spawned Termagant ran 2” and the Tervigon ran 1”. The Hive Tyrant scattered its Heavy Venom Cannon doing nothing. The Tyrannofex also did nothing. The Zoanthrope also failed to do anything.

Eldar Turn 5:
Now was the time for the heavy hitting beasts of the Tyranids to suffer, Eldrad thought as he ordered all firepower on the monstrous creatures. The Tyrannofex was easily taken out with the Falcons Pulse Laser. The Wraithlord fired a mighty Krak Missile at the unsuspecting Zoanthrope to destroy it. The War Walkers then fired a volley of Scatter Laser fire at the Lictor to deal a wound. Faced with a choice between martyrdom or slaughter, the Rangers opted to charge the Lictor infront of them. The battle was long and fierce but the Lictors 'friends' were coming up right behind. The Rangers would soon be crushed.

All vehicles moved around at high speeds.
The Falcons Pulse Laser knocked of the final 2 wounds for the Tyrannofex. The Wraithlord Missile Launchered then Instant Deathed the Zoanthrope. The Lictor suffered a wound from Scatter Laser fire.
In a suicide mission, the Rangers charged the Lictor (it’s better than being charged). No wounds were dealt.

Tyranid Turn 5:
The Tyranid front was beginning to act like a cornered beast. The Rangers fell to chitinous blades as the Tyranid Prime and his bodyguard joined the fight, but the Hive Tyrant's Heavy Venom cannon let the beast down again. Charging forward mindlessly, the Hive Tyrant realised the next few minutes were crucial, and steeled itself as such.

Everything moved forward as far as possible (including running for some units).
The Hive Tyrant fired at one Wave Serpent doing nothing.
The Rangers were massacred as they were charged by the Warriors with the Prime and still being assaulted by the Lictor.

Eldar Turn 6:
Realising that the Tyranids were concentrating all forces to one flank, the Eldar went to the other as Eldrad, the Wraithlord, the 2 War Walkers and an empty Wave Serpent held ground. Eldrad used his mighty mind to cause the Lictor pain for a turn. The Hive Tyrant would also suffer damage with the grav-tanks powerful weaponry along with some massed Scatter Laser firepower. Again the Hive Mind managed to regenerate a couple of his wounds but he was still in considerable pain.

Eldrad, the Wraithlord and the War Walkers moved on 6”. The Wave Serpent with Bright Lances covered the hole. The other two transport vehicles were moved around the opposite side of the castle to the Tyranids.
Eldrad used Mind War, taking one wound off of the Lictor. The Falcon dealt another wound to the Hive Tyrant who had suffered 2 other from Scatter Laser fire leaving him on 1 wound however regeneration gave him another wound to put him on 2.

Tyranid Turn 6:
The Tyranid flank was devastated. The Raveners burrowed deep into some impassible ruins full of broken wires, shocking themselves half to death but otherwise doing no damage to themselves. The Rippers arrived at the north of the wraithbone temples- however, it would take too long for them to reach the combat, and a few of the Rippers began to feel their minds being erased without Synapse to guide them. The Warriors opened fire on Eldrad, but before a torrent of acid could devour the great Eldrad, his Warlock bodyguard hurled himself in front of the acid bubble, disintergrating before he reached the ground. Eldrad drew his witchblade and looked at the Warriors with anger anew. In the next few minutes, one of the leader-beasts would die.

The Raveners and Rippers arrived. Everything moved on 6”.
The Hive Tyrant shot at Eldrad but scattered onto the Wraithlord which came out unharmed. The Warriors killed a Warlock accompanying Eldrad that had Destructor. Everything else ran.

Eldar Turn 7:
The Swooping Hawk was angered and upset at the loss of his fellow Hawks and was going to make the Tyranids pay. He flew down dropping a grenade onto the Rippers but only killed 2 of the small creatures - not even enough for one swarm. It then flew back into reserve and the comfort of the Craftworld to mourn his losses. The Wave Serpent and Falcon dropped off their Wraithguard and Fire Dragons who shot down some mighty beasts. The Hive Tyrant was finally crushed by the Wraithlords Missile Launcher and one of the Primes bodyguard was killed. All of the remaining Hormagaunts were killed with a mighty blast of electric Psychic energy from the Wraithguards Warlock whilst the Tyranid Prime and his bodyguard were crushed in close quarters. This battle was now almost certainly the Eldars.

The Swooping Hawk Exarch returned out of range of anything and threw its grenades dealing 2 wounds to the Rippers. Everything else moved on other than the Wave Serpent blocking the hole. The Swooping Hawk flew back to reserve and the Wraithguard and Fire Dragons disembarked their vehicles behind the Tyranid lines.
The Tervigon was shot down to 5 wounds and the Hive Tyrant was shot to death by the Missile Launcher Wave Serpent. One of the Tyranid Primes bodyguard was killed. All of the remaining Hormagaunts were killed.
The Warriors and the Prime were killed in close combat by Eldrad and the Wraithlord.

Tyranid Turn 7:
The Tyranid Prime realised the battle was lost. The biomass they had ingested was enough to mount further attacks, but the fell beast refused to die without a fight for the ages. Every beast turned to their opposition, and the Raveners hurled themselves onto the Falcon after failing to infest its systems with worms from their devourers, immobilising it. The mighty Tervigon released its electroshock grubs that had failed to kill the Swooping Hawk Exarch before, and slew the Warlock easily with electrical pulses. Thre Rippers, meanwhile, tore eachother apart mindlessly.

Everything turned to face the Fire Dragons and Wraithguard.
After shooting nothing had happened other than one Fire Dragon and the Wraithguards Warlock was killed by the Tervigons Electroshock Grubs.
The Rippers lost 2 wounds due to Mindless and the Falcon was Immoblised by the Raveners. Just 2 Wraithguard remained after combat.

Eldar Turn 8:
The time for victory was nigh for the Eldar. The grav-tanks rammed off the Lictor and Venomthrope who had nowhere to run other than off the battlefield. The Raveners were crushed by the Fire Dragons melta fire and two Ripper Swarms were wiped out by 2 mighty Pulse Laser shots. The Tervigon stood no chance against the rest in close combat and was swiftly taken out.

The Wave Serpent with Missile Launchers Tank Shocked some units away from action. Everything advanced if it could.
His Lictor and Venomthrope were Tank Shocked off of the table thanks to Star Engines. All for Raveners were killed by the Fire Dragons. Two Ripper Swarms were killed by Pulse Laser.
The Tervigon and one remaining Termagant were crushed in assault by Eldrad, the Wraithguard and Wraithlord.

Tyranid Turn 8:
The remaining Rippers were killed by their own Instinctive Behaviour.

Mindless killed another Ripper and they failed their leadership test so ran off the board.

Eldar Victory!!!

I knew this was over after the first tyranid turn. Running his tyranofex, and super upgrading gaunts while leaving them out of synapse. I don't understand how that happened with a prime and a tervagon and a Tyrant. The tyrant the Trygon and the Tyrannofex all costed a little under 1/2 of his army. and 2 out of 3 of them were badly misplayed. The fluff made me happy though.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Actually they were in synapse but you were right about everything else.

If they are in synapse they can't be pinned, is what I was getting at. Snapse control is a big part of making the Tyranids tick. Having devo-gaunts costing that much and then having them pinned hurt him a lot, I'm sure the nid player will learn and evolve though

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Just an answer to questions about the way I played-
-I knew I'd lost the moment I saw his army. I hadn't spent much time over my army list, and to be honest I just wanted to field both the Trygon and T.Fex as they were unplayed models. I had very little anti-vehicle and the table was just over 72" long, so sniping with the T.Fex was not an option due to his fast dodging, and the massive castle in the middle of the field that interrupted LOS. I also had no clue you can plug a Trygon's hole and no idea you need a 6 to hit an 18" mover. I did mention in my fluff I needed to spawn some Genestealers.
-At least I know now that synapse gaunts can't be pinned. That's probably the only reason they never did anything.
-I really need to spend less points on monstrous creatures. The reason I fielded the T.Fex is above.
And I'm glad you like the fluff. I wrote the intro and the nid turn fluff. Reidy did the Eldar turn fluff and the final Nid turn.

May I recomend you some tyranid hive guard. and change out dominion for catalyst. Drop regen. Start your trigon on the table never deep strike them, they just get gunned down. remember synapse makes you fearless, and Shadow of the warp can shut down eldrad. Lood luck in your next battle

Nice battle report! The fluff makes for fun reading next to the results. I would love some pics on the next one.

I also like that you guys werent satisfied with ending on T7 and forged on through an 8th turn. Props to Scylla for sticking it out till the bitter end and then some. I would have been ready to hang up my rending claws quite a while sooner. Here are some notes:

Turn 2:
pinning both terms and horms seems like it might have been a mistake? (As long as those units are in synapse range they are fearless and should automatically pass the pinning tests) was this a rules oversight or just a mistake with synapse coverage?

Turn 3:
wraith cannons vs TMCs is really evil

Turn 6:
why did raveners and rippers come on so late? even with abysmal reserve rolls shouldnt they have been automatic on t5?

Also you mention tervigon shooting stuff with electro-grubs a couple times. Thats an upgrade for the tyrannofex but isnt an option on the tervigon. not sure if this was a typo or a list mistake.

On the nids list:
I dont necessarily think you have too many MCs for 2k. I think the HT, Trygon, T-fex and Tervi are all totally reasonable choices. I do think you have too many points wrapped up in upgrades for them, though.

I think regen is particularly expensive and I would skip it on my MCs. I just dont think it is going to return enough wounds over the course of a game to be worth the expense.

The prime upgrade on the trygon is ok if you need the extra synapse coverage, but its a lot of points and unless you are using the synapse and shadow a lot, I would skip it. Instead I would give him Adrenal Glands to make him an even bigger threat when he gets the charge on vehicles (S7 + rending + scytal rerolls = fun times).

I dont think implant attack is a great investment on the tervigon either, its a neat trick but I dont think its worth its points. I would much rather see you spend the points for toxin+adrenal so he can give those bonuses to nearby termagants for free. This will give him rerolls to wound thanks to the toxin and his high S, which complements his scytal rerolls nicely, and can synergize with the furious charge giving him rerolled wounds even against T7 the turn he charges.

I think Tyranid Primes best feature is that hes a cheap HQ. You already have a beefy HQ in your tyrant, so I might consider skipping the prime to free points up for other models that may be more effective in other places.

Overall my changes so far:
-tyranid prime (115)
-HT regen (20)
-Tervi Implant (15)
-Trygon Prime upgrade (40)
-Trygon regen (25)

+Tervigon Adrenal (10)
+Tervigon Toxin (10)
+Trygon Adrenal (10)

That leaves 185 points you can spend. I think the first place I would look to add points back are in your elites slots. The elites are some of the best units in the new nid book, and I think you would do yourself a big favor by beefing up your squads in these slots to 2 or 3 models each.

Maybe:
+2 zoanthrope (120)
+1 Lictor

The extra zoans help a little bit with synapse coverage and give you a potent unit vs armor and vs infantry with their blast.

The extra lictor makes that unit twice as scary with rear shots on armor when it deploys and tons of rending attacks on the charge.

I also think Hive Guard are a great choice. a unit of 3x would really help you deal with those skimmers flying about all willy-nilly

Great report! I play mechdar and I have to say that Tyranids really have to step up their game to keep up with fast skimmers. In a game like this it really sucked that the Tervigon rolled doubled first turn. Last man standing is easier with 30+ more potential bodies.

yeh, nids monstrous creatures struggle to keep up with eldar skimmers and once the zoanthropes are gone and that rupture cannon the Tyrannofex has is gone as well, they don't really have anything to shoot them down either
