So after forcing 2 draws on my opponent the time came for the third and final game of our "best of 3" match. Now I'm sorry that this isn't going to be a proper report since the stress of so many games in such little time has finally gotten to me (obout 20 hours of 40k in about 2 weeks) . Turns/events in the game seem to intermingle and my decisions on the battlefield aren't quite what they should be. I apologise for the lack of reading, but I honestly can't recall all the details clearly. I will merely show the most important points of the game (the ones I remember anyways). Here are the lists
Hive tyrant
wings
paroxysm
Life leech
2x scything talons
Hive commander
3 zoanthropes in a spod
Doom in a spod
10 ymgarl genestealers
13 gaunts
Tervigon
Crushing claws
catalyst
2 trygons
My opponent ran something like this:
Logan Grimnar
Bjorn the Fell handed
Rune priest (JotWW and some other power which he didn't use)
Assault termies (THSSx3, LCx2)
2 lone wolves (Frost blade on one and THSS second one)
5 man Grey hunters
7 bloodclaws
4 man long fangs (lascannon, plasma cannon and heavy bolter)
Vindicator
The mission was KP's with Spearhead. He won the roll (3rd time in a row) and made me go first. I reserve/DS/outflank everything and he reserves everything too. So onto the things I remember:
1. Tervigon dead on turn 2 thanks to JotWW.
2. Tyrant single handedly ripping Bjorn to pieces in turn 3.
3. Tyrant then killed by an angry lone wolf wielding a THSS
4. Zoanthropes do nothing all game. Miss/ interrupted by psychic hood before being assaulted by Terminators thanks to bad scatter on their DS roll.
5. Assault termies joined by the rune priest and Logan put a trygon down to 1 wound while trygon killed all assault termies.
6. Doom hit the 2 remaining IC's (Rune priest and Logan) for a whopping 5 hits. Rune priest dies and Logan goes to 1 wound.
7. Trygon 2 engages 7 bloodclaws, 5 Grey hunters and 4 longfangs over the course of 3 turns and destroys all of them. Trygon 2 ends the game on 1 wound (it failed every save it had to make).
8. Ymgarl Stealers come on late (turn 4) and roll abysmally for their first 2 turns on the table (moved about 8" in 2 turns). When they finally got into combat with Logan they won the game for me...They ripped his damn head off.
The game ended on turn 6 and for the most part it looked like I was losing pretty badly. By the start of turn 4 I was losing 5KP's to 2. Somehow in turn 4 I managed to take the lead with 6KP's to 5. After that it was just a matter of time before I got something to get his units away from Bjorn's body to get the win. As it was I managed to table the guy but it was tough. By the end all I had was 13 gaunts, 1 trygon with 1 wound, Doom and 6 Ymgarls.
Hats off to my opponent. He was a great guy to go up against and considering he's new to 40k he played an extremely tactical game. It very easily could have been him going to the Semi's had it not been for some tremendous luck with Doom.
My next round starts today. I'm going up against a friend of mine who is using IG with Vendettas and LRBTs. I think I'm gonna get whipped, but will just have to do my best.
Thanks for reading and once again I apologise for the lack of a real report.
