I have heard of THIS too, which is bs. Which then leads to this....
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology/2010/01/07/call-of-duty-next-stop-vietnam-plus-infinity-ward-not-developing-modern-warfare-3-115875-21950004/
either way...
The tensions, both diplomatically and strategically speaking, began almost immediately after the French colonial power pulled out after losing the first Indochina War in Vietnam (then known as "French Indochina" ). The US inserted advisors (read "CIA" ) in to South Vietnam starting with the Eisenhower administration, this intensified along with smaller numbers of military personnel being deployed as well under the Kennedy administration. It was under the Johnson administration in 1965 that the US military was unleashed in Vietnam. Under the Nixon administration a cease fire was established in 1973 although a steady bombing campaign continued - incidentally the US dropped more bombs over Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia combined than they did during all of WWII. The US completely stopped the official war against Vietnam under the Ford administration in 1975 after Nixon resigned in disgrace after being caught bugging his political adversaries campaign headquarters during an election year. Thus the Vietnam war came to a close in 1975 some 10 years after it militarily began in 1965 while having taken place in the three countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. That's a lot of military history in a lot of places. There were full frontal assaults, new technology developed not seen before (ex. early laser guided bombs), plenty of covert operations carried out by special forces, drug deals orchestrated by national intelligence organizations to help fund their operations away from prying eyes. Add to that the global scene which was deep in the Cold War at the time and I'm confident there is loads of material to work with!

It's Treyarch, so chances are that the game will have over the top screaming, swearing and really, really wimpy gun sounds.

If it's a vietnam game you're after, just play BF Vietnam. Same thing as far as MP goes. Only difference is there're vehicles included. Campaign might be lacking, but who buys a shooter for the Single Player?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Well, okay, sans weapon mods and knifer-builds. Mind you I've never really cared for shooters, but BF Vietnam was still a fun f**kfest IMO

Battlefield has never been as intense as CoD, probably due to the larger scale. In most CoD games you've got explosions everywhere, people sprinting full-pelt around buildings, people taking potshots at each other and noisy gunships flying around. Battlefield always seems much more quiet to me.

Battlefield always seems much more quiet to me. Really? Any map with lots of choke points was always intense I found. Maps with plenty of Bridges, narrow trails, or tight streets made for some serious firefights in my experience. I can't remember what the map was called, but there was one in BFV where it was like a delta with really steep banks on each side of the numerous rivers, and really the only way across was air (not an option on that map) or the bridges. That, or a long tedious swim to find a beach with a trail going up the otherwise impassable banks. Crossing those bridges during a firefight was insane. You were lucky to make it 5 feet before someone gunned you down. Much fun. Much Raeg as well, but stilll much fun. You pretty much had to be in a tank or APC, or else behind one to survive. And that's assuming the crazy 'Nade spam flying over your head didn't kill you either.

@cheese: I have both MW2 and Bad Company 2, and I'm enjoying BF a heck of a lot more. If you play Rush maps, you are guaranteed to get that mad, crazy, explosions, bullets, bodies, sprinting, shooting, never reloading just in case there's a guy around that corner, don't hide there for too ong or they'll blow up your cover kind of gameplay. I have found it to be more intense than MW2 for a couple of reasons. 1. Squad spawns. The ability to spawn on your squadmates at any time is huge One person parachuting into the back of a base can become four people. Our most intense moments are when we're fighting other squads. We stay right in the action because between defibs and squad spawns, you don't have to walk to the fight (note: we have a squad of 4 with two medics). Also, the ability of enemies to spawn on teammates is also huge. You have to watch closely because if one guy sneaks around he can spawn the rest of his squad behind you. 2. Destructible terrain. It sounds like a gimmick, but it definitely, definitely isn't. Not when the wall you're behind gets blown up and you have to move. Not when the building your squad is in starts creaking and groaning. It also helps out in Rush games, where sometimes it's easier to just blow the building with the objective in it up instead of fighting in, planting explosives, then defending them. (we do this sometimes, 3 engineers with M2 CGs and an assault for ammo). 3. Vehicles When a tank rolls up and starts going to town on the people around you, you sit up and take notice. Plus, there are a number of fun ways to take out tanks, and some fun things you can do with them. Infantry have counters to tanks, and generally, depending on class, 1 infantry can manage to take out an unsupported tank, 2 can take out a tank with a gunner, and 3 can counter a tank with a gunner and repair dude. YMMV. Also, helicopters are rad fun. In general, there are lots of options offering increased mobility, which makes you stay alert. 4.Atmosphere Bad Company doesn't take itself too seriously, and I find that this translates over into the multiplayer as well. Rage quits are less common, I find, and I've never been yelled at on BC. (unlike MW2) 5. Balance Between the larger levels and increased mobility, the game feels better balanced. There are no specific classes/builds which people scream about being OP. Part of this may come from having less customization of your player, but there are enough weapon options, specialities, and vehicles (plus the ease of changing) that I still feel like I can make my own playstyle. Also, there are no heavily debated things or things considered cheap (I'm looking at you, thermal snipers/heartbeat sensors/knife builds/dual 1887s) 6. Casual Play Honestly, MW2 multiplayer made me feel like I was grinding in WoW. What's that? If I want to use a different playstyle, I need to kill X many people and put in several hours with particular weapons? You mean I need to unlock every attachment for every gun if I want some choice? Ugh, pass. (admittedly, I was irritated when I got the 500 score necessary in BC2 to unlock a medkit or something similar, but it took much less time) AAAAnnnnnd, I've derailed the thread. Slightly on topic comment - BF vietnam was a great game for this setting, and I don't feel that CoD could improve on it without the addition of Helicopters (which were a huge part of the conflict)
