So this weekend we play a couple combat patrols for the Canto VII campaign we are running:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/279964.page

This is a custom combat patrol mission we are running. Feedback would be appreciated, if people want to try it.

The Tau Orca was moving swiftly, flying 50 meters above the tree tops, its three armoured passengers running last minute diagnostics on their suits weapons and systems. The Kroot scouts had moved quickly in the hills towards the dropped supplies and had just marked the area with an EMP. Though quite a ways from any of the Imperial forces they were now well into Ork held hills. The Tau forces had taken some heavy losses in the last two days, the arrival of the Ultramarines had proved to be a decisive factor, driving Tau and human alike from every area they stormed into. Now, the Tau needed every bit of leverage to get back into the valley and take the city. These supplies, if recovered, would give the troops the added resources to reequip and if not beat the marines at least take the fight to the armoured tanks of the Fernis regiment. The red approach light began to pulse and the rear hatch opened. The first of the suit leapt out and started it's decent into the coming twilight...

The Tau

Crisis Suit - Pulse rifle, Missile Pods, HW Multitracker, Targetting Array

Crisis Suit - TL Flamer, Shield generator

Crisis Suit - TL Flamer, Shield generator

24 Kroot with 4 hounds

19 Kroot

(this list should have had a unit fire warriors but it was neat to see this many kroot)

Rokfangs Orks

20 Shootas w/two big shootas. Nob with eavy armour and bosspole. Stikbombs

10 Burnas

8 kommandos. Burna and Nob with Klaw and Bosspole

Killa Kan with grootzooka

Mission - Supply drop. Two to three objectives. First is placed in the center. Others scatter 6+d6 inches from that. Player with most objectives wins.

Deployment - Pitched battle

Tau - Deploy first

Kroot and hounds set up behind the grass.
Suits deep strike.
Kroot infiltrate

Orks shootas form a line with Kan protecting left flank. Big shootas hang on the left to make sure they have targets. Burnas take cover behind the main line. Kommandos infiltrate forward behind the tack grass.

Deployment:

Turn One
Tau
Main body of Kroot kill three Kommandos, break and fall back.

Orks
Kommandos rally run back to the tack grass. Shootas advance and fire big shootas, killing four kroot.
Burnas fan out to hinder deepstriking suits.
kan advances toward infiltrated kroot

Turn Two

Kroot fire at shootas kill one

Orks
Kan advances. grotzooka kills 2 kroot
Shootas advance all but one in range. Kill four more kroot.
Burnas spread out.

Turn Three
Commander stuns kan with plasma rilfe
Crisis suit flames Orks and jumps back
kroot kill another shoota

Orks waagh
Burnas charge suit and cut it apart with torches
Shootas and Kommandos charge Commander and Kroot.
orks win by five but shootas only have five left including nob with one wound.

Turn Four

Crisis suit mishaps on kommandos and is destroyed
Kroot try to skirt around kan to get to supplies. Shoot at the shootas and wipe the only Ork scoring unit from the board.

Orks
kommandos and burnas run forward as Kan charges kroot. One dies they flee 3".

Turn Five
kroot rally (mistake as they were within 6" of the enemy, whatever). Try to make a last ditch run to the objectives. Roll a one for their move.

Kan charges kroot as do kommandos. kommandos are wiped out but kroot lose more and fallback.

Turn Six
Kroot concede as remaining members can't rally with the kan so close.

As quickly as it started, the skirmish ended. With quick whoots the kroot broke off leaving the spoils to the savaged Orks that chased them with hot flame. The fight had been brutal and most had fallen. As the sun set the tinny howls of the blood crazed grot could be heard for kilometers...

Fun, quick game and I think Zinsane enjoyed the chance to try the kroot. He pointed out he ought of moved the main kroot up and rapid fired into the orks as they were going to charge ahead anyhow. The Kan sort of messed with the Kroot as there was no way for them to do anything against its fornt and side armour. Deepstriking mishap also didn't help in turn 4. Lots of empty board and he got the bad scatter.

Poor Tau. it idnt seem anything had the firepower to hurt the can.

Broadside's saves are too good for combat patrol. I could of taken better suits but I was expecting more Grots from kid_happy.
