This week is another total cluster fudge. With an odd number of players I teamed up with a new guy named Dan who was playing Demons against the opponent I had last week. My list was similar to what I’ve run before except I added 12 Tankbustas!!! Instead of 1850 I had to drop my list down to 1500 and then I used 137 points from the campaign extras to build it back to 1637. So you have the 3 most chaotic armies and 3 players who don’t know gak about each other’s rules. At one point Ryan has me show him both the Waaaagh rules and Red Paint Job!!! RPJ is one of the few pieces of war gear that hasn’t changed in over a decade!!! Meh, it was a long game.

Get ready for some picture heavy shenanigans!!!

This shot is during the deployment phase. The Dark Eldar player uses the same stuff as last week to get us to deploy first and lets him go first. I have Burnas and KFF Mek in the ONLY BW this game with Red Boyz Squad in a Trukk instead of their usual BW. The unit of Tankbustas is behind them. 2 mobz of 3 Mega Nobz each in Trukks are to the right of the Mek with Bikes and Biker Boss on the right of that.

The next 2 pics are 3000 points of Dark Eldar goodness. The second one shows what looks like 2 Batwings which are really Triple Dark Lance Skimmers.

So of course his first turn they’re no demons to be found and it hits me I could have just kept everything in reserve. I normally wouldn’t except that 1637 points of Orks are going to take 3000 points worth of Dark Eldar shooting. Actually it was pretty good for us, I only lost 2 Bikes, the BW is immobilized and Onyx (Mega Nobz) mob’s Trukk can’t shoot next turn.

My Bikes turbo boost up between 2 foot squads which turn out to be Grotesques. Red Mob hops out and heads for the ruins and the Tankbustas jump in the newly vacated and move up while still in range of the KFF. Onyx and Obsidian mobs Trukks also move forward while still in the field’s area of effect. Most of Dan’s Demons scatter and aren’t deployed. Ryan is able to redeploy one shooty squad of demons pretty far back. They aren’t even in this pic. The ones you see at the bottom are the stabby kind all nicely bunched up for Ryan’s plasma shots. 14 Rokkits fire and down a skimmer. Both the Mek and the Grot Riggers roll 3 for their repair rolls. 3+3=6 right?

We did get some flamers who killed a bunch of jet bikes. Apparently these things can auto-glance vehicles as well. Yikes! I’m glad they’re on my side.

Top of turn 2, 2 of the 3 skimmers disgorge their payloads on Red mob. They shoot and assault.

His 2 Grotesque squads assault and murderlize my bikes. I get some hits in but lose the combat and they have a special rule which forces ANY opponent to auto fall back if they lose!!! There goes my Biker Boss!!! That red thing with the claws in the middle is some type of Monstrous Creature. His shooting destroys Onyx mob’s Trukk and other shooting causes the Nobz to flee. Damn I need to find a way to get them in line. Obsidian Mob stands firm and we get some kills in. I love how one Mega Nob fills the bed of the Trukk and supposedly 6 can ride in comfort in it.

This next pic shows the outcome of the assault on Red mob and where Onyx mob fell back. They could still regroup if there were no Eldar in the area. That is a goal for me next turn. The Eldar in the crater to the upper left is the result of the Tankbustas. In the very right hand corner of this pic I’m prepping my burnas for action. “Roast Space Elf anyone?”

Bottom of second turn. Obsidian mob jumps out and rolls into one unit of Groties and because of how they were positioned their IC cannot get into base with my Mega Nobz. Obsidian goes to town and easily wins combat while only taking 1 wound. They flee and I pursue to prevent regrouping. Biker Nob and Biker Boss still flee, grrrr. Tankbustas move up in the Trukk and take out another skimmer, one with 3 plasma cannons. The BW repairs itself. The Burnas and Mek Jump out and flame the one yellow squad of shooty Eldar and mange to hit the witches and 3 of the skimmers, exploding one (killing to burnas) and immobilizing another. He just pulls that yellow squad off without rolling and the burnas assault the witches. Onyx squad only moves 3 inches but will leave the table next turn. Some bizarre shooty demon drops in next to the Tankbustas (white) Trukk.

I skipped a picture of his turn but essentially he shot a lot. He blew up the Tankbusta’s Trukk by assaulting it with some jetbikes, his Monstrous Creature and that damned Archon with the 2+ invulnerable save that gave me sooo much trouble that game. This picture shows the Tankbustas high tailing it out of there towards some vehicles. My BW tank shocks his Monstrous Creature which dodges and saves it’s wounds. He drops some more dudes on my Burna squad and along with the witches during his assault phase and mine he kills all the burnas and puts a wound on the Big Mek. Onyx mob rolls 2 2’s and just barely flee the table. Obsidian mob assaults the second Grotie squad after losing a Mega Nob to Eldar shooting. They had a Splinter gun which causes models to explode. No AP but I still manage to roll a 1. Now both of his grotesque squads are in full retreat. Another squad of stabby, goat-legged chaps warps in to attack the Eldar behind the wall at the top left.

Top of turn three and most other games are done by now. He blows the Kannon off my BW, shoots 7 Tankbustas causing them to flee, kills another Obsidian Mega Nob causing the last one to flee, and blows up their Trukk. His Archon and MC attack Dan’s Bird-headed shooty demon. At this point I plead with Dan very nicely to just kill something, anything! During our turn everything flees and my BW does a 180 and attempts to Tank Shock his skimmer. It dodges. This is the first turn the Tankbustas fail to kill anything!

This next picture is the highlight of the game!!! What isn’t there is the important part. During our turn Dan’s demon bites it. Ryan's Archon with 3 elf retinue and his MC attempt to assault my weaponless BW which is still taking Dark Lance and Plasma Cannon fire with no KFF protection. Since it moved eight inches, he either fails to hit or fails to penetrate. On our turn the BW does another 180 degree turn, first tank shocks his MC which he decides to Death or Glory. He rolls a 1 and 2 for AP and I get my ska-wish!!! Then the tank hits the Archon with retinue, of course I get exactly four hits which all wound so one MUST go on the Archon. The retinue all make their 3+ save but the Archon with the 2+ Inv. doesn’t!!!! Best part of the game!!! Ryan picks up his models before I can get my camera on.

Okay, since we’re almost done, I’ll tell you this week’s mission. Victory annihilate with Bonus points for everything you have in the opponents deployment zone. This picture shows our deployment zone full of Dark Eldar crap. However almost everything is under half strength or immobilized which counts as zero for bonus points. I gun the BW with no weapons towards his deployment area. It has taken over 2 dozen shots and numerous close combat attacks but still counts as full strength. Then in his deployment zone we have a demon shooty squad in close combat with some elder and a scoring shooty and a scoring stabby squad of demons plus the Unstoppable Battlewagon!!!

Ryan gets a minor victory, which is a Major Moral Victory for Dan and I. A very tiring game with some great emotional moments. Dan’s a lot of fun and it was nice to have someone share the pain of all that Eldar shooting. The goal in this campaign is to have 10 tiles and as long as the top player at least draws next week and doesn’t lose, it will be over. I’m actually looking forward to it so I can start playing later now that summer is approaching. I know my wife is as well. 'Til next time!

This game was ridiculous! I was the Demon player in this game, and had a total of 1590 points with the campaign extras. The only thing I knew about the DEldar is that they are very shooty heavy, and assumed that if I were to take my normal Khorne-heavy list, I wouldn't have anything warp close enough to cause any troubles to the nasty bits in back.

My army list was this:
1 Lord of Change (no extras),
3 Flamers,
3 Flamers,
5 Horrors,
10 Horrors, (shooty demons)
2 Grinders (full options)
10 Bloodletters (stabby demons)
10 Bloodletters

What PipeAlley (Ryan) so very kindly left out of this report was the fact that I lost a full squad of bloodletters, and a soul grinder to perils of the warp. The table was INCREDIBLY crowded, and in order to save points and (hopefully) get more units on the table, I didn't take any icons (25 points a piece).

This game dragged on forever, and for the first 3 turns, nothing much happened. The three of us were rolling horribly on anything but saves. The last two turns were really the shining moment of the game!

Awesome write up PipeAlley!

Lordfat: Thanks for the comment and compliment. One day I'll make an Army page to explain it all.

To be totally honest I had no idea what was going on between the Demons and Dark Eldar. Only once did our paths cross and I suggested to Beefwhistle (who is a great guy and hope to play with/against again soon) that some of my Nobz can take care of a squad while his demons might want to attack a different squad.

I did notice that the demons (except the Lord of Change) were effective when they actually were able to fight. Even his shooty demons could win close combat with the Dark Eldar. To his credit the Dark Eldar player was essentially playing 2 games at once very well. He knows his rulebook and how to play his army extremely well. A great game I NEVER want to repeat again
