So the mission was Annihilation, with Spearhead deployment. BullDurum won the roll and choose to go first and deployed both Stormravens, Rifleman (who was also the only model to roll a 1 for Red Thirst), and Land Speeder. I decided to reserve everything. Bull's scouts then infiltrated the center of the board, giving them 2 lanes to shoot down whilst being in cover. Since everything is set up, Chaos rolls to seize the initiative and rolled a 6! However since it was turn 1 nothing came on so the Blood Angels took there turn.

Since there was nothing to shoot at the Blood Angels went full throttle toward the Chaos table edge (BullDurum: since I had nothing better to do, may as well rush them!), while rearranging the dread and land speeder to keep them out of LOS. Yet again there was nothing to do, so on to the start of turn 2.

After rolling for reserves the Chaos Pred, Defiler, regular marines, and both Daemon Princes all came in! (billie_joe - both of his hoods were in the middle of the board which really didn't help me since Warptime is really only good in assault, the only thing I could hope for right then was to blow-up one or both of the ravens, so I kinda had to put all of my eggs in one basket) The entire reserves march straight up at the closest Stormraven, yet after trying to maneuver the CSM rhino around the terrain until, on the last inch he had to move onto terrain. The rhino was then immobilized on a roll of a 1, during the last inch of its movement. (billie_joe - while this was kind of upsetting, at least it was able to have moved 11" before it was effectively well painted terrain, but at least I was still able to disembark them close enough) The Defiler couldn't do anything to the closest Stormraven, but the Predator managed to immobilize it after a failed cover save. Not only did the cover save fail on the Stormraven, but the psychic hood also failed to stop lash. (billie_joe - I lashed the librarian in front of the defiler and the priest in front of the Nurgle prince, hopefully in order to kill both and get rid of their benefits) Only 1 marine was killed from shooting. In the following assault phase both the Librarian and Priest were killed, the Prince wounded with all 5 attacks while the Librarian was only wounded twice. Even with a -2 modifier though the marines pile in. On to turn 3, with a score of 3 Kill Points for Chaos and 0 Kill Points for Blood Angels.

The Blood Angels struck back with a vengence on turn 3. The second Stormraven moved up and everyone disembarked from it. The Rifleman Dread and Land Speeder shuffled around as well. In the shooting phase half of the CSM squad was wiped out from combined fire from the Stormraven, Assault squad, Furioso Dread, and Scouts. The same Stormraven also blew-up the Rhino, whose explosion also killed 1 Chaos Marine. The same CSM squad also went to ground to get a 3+ cover save against all the melta that was coming their way. (billie_joe - I figured I may as well, since they were in cover and going to get charged anyways. Little did I know that a unit that has gone to ground doesn't get to count as in cover!!) The other Furioso and Land Speeder combined to put 3 wounds on the Slaanesh Prince. (billie_joe - I made the one invulnerable save against the missiles but failed 3 against storm bolter and heavy bolter shots! WTF!?) The Rifleman Dread was also able to to penetrate the side of the Chaos Pred, and after failing both cover saves, it was wrecked. In one round of shooting, the Blood Angels managed to nearly pull ahead, getting 2 Kill Points in one phase.
Both the Furioso and the Assault Squad assaulted the last 5 Chaos Marines, and the other Furioso assaulted the Slaanesh Prince. Everyone struck at the same time in the first assault. The Blood Angels were able to inflict 12 wounds total, and the Chaos Marines directed all their attacks against the Librarian, inflicting 3. So while the Blood Angels were able to wipe away the Chaos Marines they lost their last Psyhic Hood. The Nurgle Prince and Defiler were able to kill 5 Blood Angels, who in return immobilized the Defiler, but failed their morale test. Since only the Prince was able to catch them, and did, they moved into assault against the Prince. ( billie_joe - This was awesome. Not only was my Defiler now free to shoot, but there was a nice juicy target right in front of me!) The Furioso Dread was unable to get any attacks against the Slaanesh Price before exploding. The Blood Angels were smart and spread out, while the Dread consolidated towards the board edge.

No more reserves came in for the Chaos Marines (rolled four 1's). The only thing that was able to move was the Slaanesh Prince who closed in on the Land Speeder. The Nurgle Prince was able to cast Warptime. The Defiler's Battle Cannon scattered and killed 1 Assault Marine in the open, and 3 who were in CC with the Nurgle Prince. Both Princes were able to kill their targets earning me 2 more kill points. The Nurgle Prince consolidated behind the Defiler. (billie_joe - I was lucky enough to kill both units. I don't know which was more lucky, blowing up the Land Speeder or killing 3 of the assault marines from the Defiler, cause I only inflicted 3 wounds from the Nurgle Prince and probably would have bee stuck in assault again)

Both the Assault Squad and the Furioso re-embarked on the Stormraven and moved 12" back. The Rifleman Dread moved back, trying to avoid the Slaanesh Prince, while keeping sight on the Nurgle Prince and Defiler. Both the Stormraven and Rifleman fired at the Defiler but only managed to stun it, but with Daemonic Possesion meant nothing. All of the scouts had LOS on the Nurgle Prince and fired away, inflicting 1 wound. Since there was nothing to assault, it was on the the Chaos Marines turn.
Finally some reserves arrived, all but the Plague Marines. Both the Khorne and Slaanesh Rhinos came onto the road and moved 18". The Obliterators walked 5" in to some cover and right at the Stormraven. The Nurgle Prince moved straight at the Stormraven as well, and the Slaanesh Prince flew around the corner of the hanger, settling in front of the building and staring at the scouts. Neither the Oblit's Lascannons, nor the Defilers Reaper Autocannon were able to do anything to the Stormraven. The scouts were only lashed 4" out of cover. The Nurgle prince wasn't able to assault the Stormraven as well, highest roll was a 5. All in all nothing happened this turn.

The Stormraven moved over to the Noise Marine Rhino and everyone disembarked. The Rifleman Dread shuffled around as well. In the shooting phase the Stormraven managed to wreck the Slaanesh Rhino with its Twin-Linked Lascannon. The Rifleman managed to take out the Defilers Battlecannon, and the scouts sniped another wound onto the Nurgle Prince. The Furioso was out of range, but the Assault Marines were able to make it. Only 1 Blood Angel died, but they were able to kill 4 Noise Marines. Although they weren't able to wipe out the Noise Marines, the Blood Angels got another Kill Point for their Rhino.
The Plague Marines rushed forward from reserve (finally!!) into the ruined building and disembarked. The Bezerkers did the same, moving up to the Furioso. The Slaanesh Prince zeroed in on the Rifleman while the Nurgle Prince did so on the scouts. The Plague Marines double tapped with their Plasma Guns, but failed to roll any 6's to pen. The Obits brought down the second Stormraven with both Lascannons hitting and penetrating. The Bezerkers charged both the Furioso and the Assault Squad. The Noise Marines didn't manage to do anything while the Zerkers killed 1 Assault Marine and the Priest. In return the Furioso killed all 8 Khorne Bezekers! And we only stopped at 8, there could have been more! Three more Noise Marines died to No Retreat, leaving only the Noise Champion to fend off 7 Assault Marines. The Nurgle Prince killed 5 scouts and took nothing in return. The Slaanesh Prince wasn't so lucky. By making the Rifleman explode he lost his last wound in a blissful ball of fire. (billie_joe - My match-ups weren't perfect, but losing my last wound on my Slaanesh Prince to an explosion?!) With even exchanges across the board it was time to see is there was another turn to play.

The game went on (rolled a 4). The only thing that was able to move, the Furioso, started running at the Plague Marines, firing as it did so, but couldn't aim as it readied it's blood talons! In assault the Nurgle Prince killed 4 more scouts, but not enough to wipe them out. The Assault Squad also finished off the Noise Marine Champion and the Furioso rampaged through the entire Plague Marine Squad!! (billie_joe - This was a mistake on my part, I was so eager to kill the Furioso that I disembarked my Plasma gunners with their bases out side of the terrain, only a bit, but he didn't have to roll for difficult terrain, and negated any advantage I had) The battle was starting to look like a draw with 9 kill points for Chaos and 8 kill points for Blood Angels.
The Khorne Rhino moved straight back 12" to get away from the Melta guns, and the Nurgle Rhino moved back 6" so it could still fire its Havoc Launcher and Combi-Bolter. The Oblits moved up 3", staying in terrain, and fired away with their Multi-Meltas blowing up the Furioso before it could do anymore harm. The Khorne Rhino also used its smoke launchers and the Nurgle Rhino was able to kill 1 Assault Marine. In assault the Nurgle Prince was able to kill the last scout, gaining another kill point.

The game ended of a roll of a 2. In the end Chaos remained victorious, with 11 total kill points, and 8 kill points for the Blood Angels.

Really interesting read and it is good to see a balanced list do well against BA with all the whoopla about the codex being 'ridiculous.'
