You Sunk My Battleship!

Hey, I won a Cygnar Heavy Warjack in a contest! This marks my first official foray into Warmachine. I need some advice.

1. I need some direction for assembly and painting. I have no experience with pinning or anything like that and I own none of the books. Some good links/sites/painting guides would be helpful.

2. What else would I need to buy figure wise to have a playable force? What would be the minimum to get started? Thanks.

yeah, there is very little in the way of force allowance for warjacks barring more then one character warjack.

so a heavy warjack for cygnar plus the battlebox would serve you well.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

Unless you already have an Ironclad. Which warjack do you have?

It's an ironclad.

No point in getting two of them so early in your collection. Have a look through the Warcasters and find one you like the look of.

Which bits of this Ironclad are you having problems assembling?

I haven't even tried to assemble it yet. I'm a little gun-shy because I've never had a metal figure in this many pieces.

Some parts of the Ironclad need some greenstuff and glue to make them attach properly none of the parts really need pinning.

Are you familiar with putting a little greenstuff into a join? to make it fit tight?

I've never used green stuff. I know what it is and understand the concept. I've been meaning to get some.

Go get some it will prove invaluable. I recommend you buy it from anywhere apart from GW if you can help it, theirs is the most expensive on the market.

I got some of the brown stuff from GF9. I am liking it.
A bit stickier to start, but seems a bit sharper on the detail.

As far as using either for joins, works good in combo with superglue.

By itself, the putty eventually (Read years later) shrinks and stuff falls apart.
I pulled out some Space Marines I packed around 2000, and arms were falling off everywhere.
They were green stuff holding plastic arms to metal bodies.

Just to be clear Ned:

Did you get the plastic or the metal Ironclad model?

He mentions that it's metal a couple of posts up.

Sorry, missed that.

The best way to assemble the metal Ironclad that I have found is.

- Pin the arms
- Pin the head (not completely necessary)
- Pin the torso to the legs (not completely necessary)
- Use a thin sheet of epoxy putty to attach the boiler to the back.

As far as expanding, I would seriously consider trying to replicate the rest of the Battle Box.

Coleman Stryker (Alt Sculpt) PIP31020 $8
Charger PIP31005 $15
Lancer PIP31006 $17

When you buy them, make sure that they contain the MK2 cards or else you will need to acquire them elsewhere. MK 2 cards are pretty easy to distinguish because all the special rules are on the back, there are icons on the weapon and model statlines and the art is inside a circle.

Once you have the other models and cards you can play what is generally termed a "Battle Box Game" these are pretty much the absolute minimum size game you will ever play, but it allows you some time to get used to the most unique aspect of Warmachine: Caster-Jack interaction. The proper allocation of Focus is key to understanding Warmachine. Solos and units are similar enough in function to other games but Jacks and Casters are the meat of the Warmachine experience.

Hope this helps!

What about never buying the Charger. The Sentinel surpasses it in every respect IMO.

In MK 2 I've had much better use from the Charger. Powerful shot giving you two fully boosted shots can be killer. I've actually assembled the two other one's I got on the cheap a while back that I had intended to turn into wreck marker. The Sent might be a bit better for clearing out troops but the Charger is a much better solo and Caster/Warlock hunter.

Other than Shield Guard, I have found the Sentinel to be nearly useless.

Give the Charger one focus and it will cap most solos without a problem.

Give it three and it can take out casters with a DEF/ARM in the 15/14 range.

I've been facing Elves, Shield Guard is pretty high priority for me.

I would still consider getting the battlebox. You can't beat the deal, and you never know if you will ever use a second Ironclad or not, especially in larger games. Nothing wrong with a Quake hammer and open fist. Also, the battlebox is just a good deal and a good force to start with. The battleboxes are just good deals, and ideal for a starting player without being too hard on your wallet.

Some stores are also allowed to replace MK1 cards with MK2 cards if purchased with a MK1 card, or you can order the MK2 cards from PP for .50 cents a peice I think.

The above pre-supposes that you can find a Battle box.

My local store has had troubles in this area.
