Anyone got any good ideas for Cinerators? Such lovely models, but seem like such a terrible unit. I've thought about maybe just using a unit of 3 - with their rule setting other enemies on fire, seems they don't really need to do a lot of attacks to do a lot of damage to infantry, and spending extra points for the 5-strong unit might be overkill.
Just seems like with SPD 4, they're just not worth it. After taking damage their threat range becomes 9" - the same as Bastions without the extra movement. I see synergy with the Harbinger's Crusader's Call, but again Bastions get the same thing. Perhaps use with epic feora as advanced fire causers? But other things in her list would do it better like a Vanquisher or bonded Redeemer.
How best to use Cinerators, then?

I am thinking of picking up a unit for my Reznik List's, just to help screen him a bit. I like the look of them better than bastions.

I picked up a unit on Friday and love the look of the models. Not sure where they will fit the best yet in my army... with the Protectorate I'm a completest. I pick it up and then work on who it will work best with.

They seem to me like a "better" knights exemplar. Able to take a hit from something like a heavy warjack and maybe live, as opposed to just crumple like exemplar do. Also "immune" to things like widowmakers popping them off. Always sucks to lose your last ARM 20 exemplar to a widowmaker or daughter.
Add to that the ability to screen medium-based casters like reznik [and.....reznik] and immunity to trample and cavalry running over them, and I think they are worth their points, even if they're not the best unit ever.

I can see them handy for busting up a Shield Wall. P+S12 Weapon masters won't have trouble killing at least a few models, and setting their buddies all on fire. Shield Wall doesn't stop your face from melting.
That said, Sanguine Bond is such an amazing ability it is hard to top it. If only they had Reach on those giant swords.

Sanguine Bond sure is an amazing ability.....it's a pity they don't have it.

i would swap flaming burst crap for shield wall, then i would take them for an armored tarpit/sexy model choice.

They're not an armored tarpit though.
I just don't know what to call them. I'd say they're a swarm killing tank unit, if
that makes sense. The problem is chasing swarms... Automatically Appended Next Post: So Bastions and Cinerators present an interesting dilemma for a ranged opponent.
Bastions will get to spread damage around, staying on the table longer. Hit them
and you can't really expect much to happen.
Ignore the Cinerators and you risk eating a full set of Fire tokens when the line
finally closes in. The question is, can you outshoot the unit that gets faster as it
comes in?
If you're only going to take one or the other, I'd say take Bastions for the
staying power. But to me there's no real point to taking two units of Bastions, or
Bastions with the Temple Flameguard (blasphemous, I know). If you've
already taken a defensive unit, then take Cinerators as a counter assault
unit and let your opponent decide how he wants the game to play out.

But which unit would be better for eSeverius Tier list? I think it's tier 3 which requires 2 medium based Exemplar units and allows those units to make an advanced move.
I thought about the following list, but haven't bought anything yet:
eSeverius
1xTemplar
2xCrusader
(mandatory for tier 4 and each one cost 1 less)
covenant of Menoth
1xbastions (full)
1xCinerators (full)
this so far would be 29 points and I think I am forgetting a tier requirement.
But I am not sure if I would do one of each unit or just stick with one over the other, such as having 2xfull bastions or 2xfull cinerators?
Thoughts?

I was thinking 1/1 with Holy Ward on the Bastions to give them a reason to
direct ranged attacks at the Cinerators.

Why pay double the cost of bastions for shields for bastions? Why not just take double the bastions?

Bastions only ever get one attack and Cinerators have the potential to affect more models.
Also, if the Cinerators do turn into shields for the bastions, the opponent is making a decision
to make the Cinerators faster than a second unit of Bastions could ever be.
