hey,

i've only played war of the rings once by dividing up my friend's urak hi army. he likes the game a ton, and, thou he loves playing 40k with me, would like to play LoTR with me. i would like to have an army thou, i really like the harad and other evil human models of that vain (eastern men, etc) models, and was wondering what was a good way to make an army and how many points is a good to have as a goal. i don't know how big his army is but it is fairly big.

i would rather not have named heroes since i am very much into build your own fluff type of stuff. if it is possible to do this effectively it would be good to know. i don't have the rulebook on hand but i can borrow it when i get home in 15 days and i have read it.

smaller model count would be preferable but i would like advice at making a playable army so if it cant be small that is fine.

plus when i was younger i didnt really get into the game due to how hard it was to paint such small models, does anyone have any advice on how to do that.
hope this isn't too much to ask.

advice would be very liked! thanks!!

You are very much stuck with named heroes in WotR. No building your own fluff in Middle Earth, heretic!

Points-wise, you probably want to aim for the 1500/1600 point range when starting. The Fallen Realms have a good mix of decent, rather cheap troops (Haradrim), fairly elite, expensive troops (Easterlings), troops that are expen$ive monetarily but not points-wise (Khand, Mahud), and possibly the most amusing monster in the game (Mumak).

A mumak is 250 points, so get yourself two of them and there's a third of your 1500 point army done. A couple of Ringwraiths (Khamul & the Betrayer are popular) and Amdur Lord of Blades gives you a nasty batch of Epic heroes. Fill in with a couple-three boxes of plastic Easterlings and you've a low-model-count army (for WotR) that has a chance of doing terrible unfriendly things to your opponent.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

you really are stuck with named heroes, damn.

i don't really like the khand models (the one's with the flags on their backs gah) so would like to stay clear of those. i really like the easterlings as well as the harad soldiers.

mumaks look badass but i don't know if i would want to paint them, and def not two, thou i could see myself painting one. is there a way to have an army with one or none of those creatures?
