Hello to all on Dakka.

I've been reading material here for a while, although I've not made any posts. This is mainly due to a sense of general difficulty with using technology- this is the first time I have written anything on the internet except as emails.

I'm from Shropshire, UK, and spent a large part of my youth collecting both 40k and to a lesser extent Warhammer. I kind of wrapped that up in about 1998 (?) and sold all of my minis to partially fund a hedonistic lifestyle. I don't remember how many points of anything I had, but I used to have sizeable Space Wolf and Chaos forces, as well as a smattering of Imperial Guard and a Warhammer Wood Elf army. Despite an additional foray into Necromunda, gaming was never a major part of my interest although there were 'cells' of 40k and Necromunda enthusiasts locally. I had always found modelling (at a basic level) and painting minis to be a great source of relaxation, and this is my main attraction to it as a true 'hobby' in this respect.

Since getting (most of) my hedonistic tendencies out of my system, and now my offspring are sleeping through the night (offering the giddying prospect of having some free time again), I've been drifting gradually back towards mini painting/collecting as a way of spending some leisure time. Even though I've been peeking in to 40k/WFB/Necromunda material on the web for a few months, I'm still amazed at the range of models (and suppliers/designers) that have become available since I last paid any serious attention. I had previously thought that GW was the only show in town, but there is so much stuff (especially fantasy genres) around from smaller distributers that the mind boggles.

In GW terms, I am undoubtedly going to resurrect my Necromunda interest, and I am sorely tempted by Orks, Imperial Guard, and Tyranids. I think it is likely that I will exercise some restraint and set about this slowly though; I realise that inflation happens, but I'm sure GW minis are at least twice as expensive as they used to be, with a sad reduction in the ratio of metal to plastic. I harbour ideas for entire companies of fully-mechanised IG with artillery support, or planetary-invasion-sized swarms of Tyranids, but my wallet just won't take it (not to mention Mrs Mek's views on such projects).

Oh well, I've rabbited on enough now. Just thought I'd say a quick 'hello' with a short burst of background; looking forward to joining in with some of the forums over the coming weeks.

Cheers

Little Mek

Yes, I really like my 'nids. I haven't had a lot of luck with the new codex vs space wolves, but I really enjoy putting my lists together and of course putting my buggy army on the table. I have a lot of work in them and get tons of positive comments on them... I just don't win with them. O well. I play three chapters of SM and now back to my core army, IG. A home coming of sorts. I used to play 2nd edition years ago.

I have a Goliath gang that hasn't seen a hive in over 13 years. hehe.

The Tyranids are definitely appealing models. The new (latest?) carnifex is probably one of the best plastic models I've seen; greatly improved on the original one.

What colour scheme do you use for your bugs?

Three chapters of marines?! I guess that offers some scope for some more variety in colour schemes as well as background material.

If the goliaths are feeling left out, there is a beekeeper near where I live, although it's probably not the same...

It certainly is, and long may it continue!
Just picked up an Orrus Spyrer for Necromunda. First mini in over 10 years, and a dangerous precedent given the amount of OOP Munda stuff floating on Ebay. Planning to start obtaining painting supplies etc with a view to remembering how to paint. Once (if?) this happens, thinking next of more Spyrers and some Van Saar...
