I'm new to the game and opened a Southern Support Squadron box. It seems like you can do an awful lot of foolin' around with that squad's weapons. That being said, do you magnetize your gears' weapons and what size magnets do you use?

I know a few guys over on the DP9 forums magnetize theirs. I'm not confident enough to do it for Gears with all the fiddly bits. Their hands are pretty close to 28mm humanoids..

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

I used these:
http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D101%2DN52
Now, larger pieces (VHAC, HRP, VLFG) will need multiple magnets of those size so you could go with larger magnets instead of multiples, but for hand held weapons (LAC, MAC, HAC, FC) and LRP and MRP, these work perfectly and fits in the fist of a gear with no issues. I do recommend a second magnet on the rifle-type weapons where they would fit into the other hand as they do have a tendency to spin when mounted one handed, but it's not necessary....

I've used desc magnets from K&J as well, and they work pretty reliably on the arms. I have larger ones (don't remember the exact dimensions off hand), so I didn't do the rocket packs; drilling out the posts seemed like a bit of a chore! And instead of using magnets on both sides, I've found that most of the guns work fine with one magnet and a bit of cut sheet metal (you can find it in your friendly model train store). The only problems I've had with that method are the HRGs on the rabid grizzlies, which have no points to brace against; since they swing freely they tend to fall off. I'm going to go back and try dual magnets on them.
Generally I find it's only marginally useful; you probably will find a loadout you want for a specific model realtively quickly, and won't deviate from there. For instance, I rarely (ever?) use the LGL on the Rabid Grizzlies, so I could have simply glued the HGL on and been fine. YMMV.

I can see that for a few gears but I've found that for the more common gears the magnetizing really helps. I also just personally enjoy picking through my toolbox for various weapons or for mounting weapons that a particualr gear would never have access to for a one off type scenario.

I figured it'd be most useful for the rifle type weapons, so that's where my primary focus lay. I've had KJ magnetics suggested to me for 40k magnets as well, so apparently this is going to be a large order.
Robert, your probably right. I still do like the idea if only because it takes me a LONG time to settle on an army I like in 40k, I'm assuming it'll take just as long in Heavy Gear. I am terribly indecisive.

There you go then. And if you do start using the exact same gear over and over, glue it then. The little magnets are only about, what 6 cents a piece and the manhours it takes to drill a hole and glue the magnet in place.
