Greetings and salutations fellow Dakkaites, I'm getting a few buddies at my flgs to start up some Battlefleet Gothic with me and we're all trying to build to 1500 pts as that seems to be standard.

We've got an older player giving us a demo game this weekend but otherwise all I've done are read through the resources available here and at GW's website. I'm not so sure of how well escorts perform as they seem to be paper tigers and get chewed up rather thoroughly so I'm not sure if I should take a few, none or lots. Here is my basic lists one with escorts and one without.

All in the Armageddon Fleet Rules

Apocalypse Battleship - 365
Fleet Admiral - 100

Mars Heavy Cruiser - 270

Gothic Cruiser - 180

Lunar Cruiser - 180

Lunar Cruiser with Nova Cannon - 200

Lunar Cruiser with Nova Cannon - 200

Total 1495 with 4 Nova Cannons, 12 torpedo spread, 4 fighters or bombers and lances and weapons aplenty in a neat 6 pack of heavily armored death.

OR

Apocalypse with Admiral - 465

Mars Cruiser - 270

Lunar Cruiser - 180

Lunar Cruiser - 180

Defiant Light Cruiser - 130

Endeavor Light Cruiser - 120

Squadron of 5 Cobra Destroyers - 150

Total 1495, 2 Nova Cannons, 24 torpedoes, 6 squadrons of fighters or bombers still with lances and weapons batteries to deal with most foes. Now there are 11 ships which would give me more maneuverability but since two are light cruisers and 5 are 1 hit destroyers I'm not sure if they would add appreciably add to my survivability.

Since I'm a total noob I'd love any feedback. Thanks so much in advance.

2x Lunars with torps - 180 each

Tyrant with 45cm guns and nova cannon - 215

Squadron of 3 swords and two firestorms

I'm just now trying to figure out the Escorts thing as well as figuring out if a BS is superior to having more cruisers with a BC as my flagship. Any thoughts?

Well, a BC as a flagship is only acceptable in my opinion in a fleet <1000.

At 1500, a BS is a must. Cruisers and Battlecruisers are nice, but a battleship provides a good base of fire.
