Hi all,
Let me preface this post by saying I haven't played much warmachine. I've played about 10 games, all battlebox or slightly bigger, all between Cryx and Cygnar, and only about half of them in Mk II.
I've been eyeing Menoth for a while now, and I love the new High Reclaimer miniature and just picked it up. Most of my reading of High Reclaimer strategies has suggested large mostly infantry armies so that you get a steady supply of soul tokens. While that sounds fine, and might be what I end up doing, I love the Menoth Jacks and would love to have a jack-heavy army.
The power that really intrigued me was sacrificial lamb. Specifically the idea that for one sacrificed model, EVERY warjack in your control area gets a focus.
Most commentaries I've read, however, say that the power, while cheap, is very hard to use, since it create order of activation complexities (since you need to active the High Reclaimer first).
Looking through the rest of the list, I noted that the Redeemer has ROF 3, and utilizing that many shots is really difficult for anything other than a single redeemer. Anyway, long story short, I started thinking about the following list
High Reclaimer +6
Redeemer 6
Redeemer 6
Redeemer 6
Redeemer 6
Max Choir 3
Min Choir 2
Reclaimer 2
Basically you use sacrificial lamb, sacrificing 1 choir troop every turn. That puts a focus on each of your Redeemers. You allocate another focus to each redeemer. Your redeemers then have 2 focus on them and can therefore each take 3 shots, or a lower number of boosted shots. 12 Pow 12 AOE 3s should decimate infantry, and if necessary you can have a lower number of boosted shots to get past armor or overcome the inaccurate skyhammer. And the range of the skyhammer allows this army to be reasonably static (it'll only really ever be walking and probably away from the enemy). The army is fairly compact, surrounding the High Relaimer but ensuring that the Redeemers can focus fire or at least have good sight lines.
Each choir can use battle to improve the shooting, or sing protective hymns as needed.
At least one (both?) choir is used in a meatshield capacity, with their deaths giving the high reclaimer and the reclaimer soul tokens. These in turn are used to add a third focus to redeemers. If either choir gets low the High Reclaimer can pop his feat to regenerate them. I basically picked the choir because they're 1 point for 2 troops - cheapest in the army. And they die pretty easy meaning lots of soul tokens.
Anyway, this is theorymachine at its world class best (worse?). Please rip this idea apart - if it's rubbish I'd rather hear it before I've dropped the dosh on 4 redeemers!
Oh, speaking of which - anyone know when the new awesome looking model comes out (the one you see in the FoW Menoth book)? And is it a multi-jack kit?
Cheers,
James.
