Hey, I've been looking at WM for a while and finally decided that Cryx had the coolest models so I chose them to play, but I'd be very grateful for advice before I spend any money on this game. In wargaming I tend to prefer just getting close for some hand-to-hand which seems like the main focus of this game luckily. For models, I really like the John McCainithralls... errr mechanithralls and bane knights/thralls. I'm just not really sure how to build around that so I'd be highly interested in other players' opinions. I'll probably buy the battle group and card deck and get some games in before anything else though, I just want to make sure I don't go off and waste any money.

If you want to beat face, do not take Deneghra. She is a spell slinger in both her forms.

I have been told that Asphyxious (Gaspy) is a good balance of melee ability and spells.

The units you mentioned are good for beatem ups as long as you have spells to buff them or de-buff the enemy.

I would suggest pGaspy too.
He is a flexible caster. He wrecks face in combat, but that doesn't mean he can't spell assassinate as well.

He's got buff and debuffs and 'can' run jack heavier.

I would suggest getting the pGaspy model and then the starter Box.

You have a Helljack Slayer for muscle.
You have to deathrippers for arc/slam.
The defiler for spray and all jacks can be used for blocking line of sight to pGaspy.

Then (if proxy is ok in your area) denny can sub in for a Warwitch(essentially that's what she is).

You have a cool 15 points with that lot right there.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Yes I agree on the Slayer recommendation.

And I am finding myself making room for the Defiler as one of my bonejacks in nearly all my lists. Sprays are awesome in this game.

Also, if you have the cash, a Seether is great. It is like a Slayer on speed. Can run or charge for free, generates a focus for itself, and has a nifty chain attack.

That is a good suggestion for the Prime Denny model. I may have to steal that since I use the Alt Denny model.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
My lists revolve around the following core:

Max McThralls unit

Min Bane Thralls unit

2 arc nodes, one usually a Defiler

Seether

Skarlock or Siren

That's around 25pts with the caster jack points.

Thanks for the advice guys! I really appreciate it. I have a question about Mcthralls though. My friend was telling me that you need a lot in a unit to make them effective because of their low MAT, how many do I need to make them worth while? Also on painting, what shades of green do you use for the glowing parts? Thanks again guys!

Well with Gaspy you can give them Scything Touch to improve DMG. I don't know what else you can do except maybe make so many attacks you get lucky.

With Denny, you hit the target with Crippling Grasp for -2Def and ARM, Crush them, then cast Crippling Grasp witht the Skarlock onto the Bane's Target and Wreck it.
You might even use your Feat for a further -2 DEF and ARM.

This is best result, but you can see the goal I think. But you definetly want a full unit of McThralls. They are too easy to kill.

And you will probably want some Brute Thralls as well. They hit like a truck, and their medium bases mean that they cannot be trampled over, making the McThralls an even better meatshield.

If you go for McThralls, then you might also consider the Necro-surgeon. This is a small unit that can regenerate Mechanithrall troopers when they get killed. So your opponent will have to contend with killing the unit two times over if you get lucky with the surgeon!

But all those are addons to the McThralls, but I agree that you definitely want a full unit of 10.

10 man unit, max thralls, max surgeons....very good tarpit and cheap for the number of bodies you get.

The only issue is formation and enemies that 'naturally' have alot of sprays or blasts.....the lawnmover type rules (aka: Slaughterborne-equivalent).

Thresher, trample, and Heavy cav can be issues too.

When the Axe comes down just pray your face isn't beneath it.
