Behind Enemy Lines
My name is Alaric. I'm a space marine. A genetically enhanced super soldier. I have two hearts, three lungs and an array of other odd organs that allow me to do all sorts of stuff that a normal human could never do. I also wear a gigantic suit of adamantium armor that can deflect small tank shots.
My squad was going to be sent in via Thunderhawk drop ship. We were sent to take out the enemy's generator in the heart of the enemy held capital city, Gantig. Destroying it would shut down the city's defenses, including their Anti-Air emplacements, allowing us to take the city with ease. As we were just entering the atmosphere we got hit a couple of times from enemy anti-air emplacements. They took off one of the wings and blew off the cockpit. We all managed to eject from the plane, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only survivor. After about seven hours I found an Imperial guard bunker right smack dab in the center of an artillery barrage. This is my story.
I heard the artillery rounds whistle just in time. “DUCK!”, I shout as an explosion tears through the ceiling of the bunker I am in. Exploding and sending me flying through the air along with the remains of most of the Imperial Guardsman Squad I had found. As I land roughly against the shell of a destroyed Leman Russ Battle Tank, I thank the God-Emperor for my adamantium armor.
As I quickly got up to check if anybody survived the deafening blast, I hear a groan coming from the direction of the blown-out bunker. I find an Imperial Guardsman dressed in worn and ragged black fatigues. As I near the Guardsman I can identify the ranking pins of a sergeant. I wake the surviving sergeant and take notice of the strange cloak the sergeant is wearing around his shoulders.
“Whu..what happened?”, the strange sergeant said drowsily.
“We got hit by a lucky artillery shell. Whats your name trooper?” I ask.
“ Scout Sargent Mkoll, Tanith First and Only, sir. I'm assuming you're a space marine mister...?”
“Alaric, Sargent Alaric.”
“Nice to meet you Sergeant Alaric.”, Mkoll replies, “Now, hows about we get out of here before they get lucky again with the artillery , eh?”, he says.
“ Fine by me, we should head towards the nearest camp though, which is in...That direction,” ,I say pointing west as I help Mkoll up. We make good time, going roughly five miles in an hour
“Get down!”, Mkoll urgently whispers.
Obeying, I see that an enemy chimera troop transport has pulled over on the side of the road and its driver and navigator had gotten out and are arguing over something. Suddenly, it hits me.
“ We need to get inside that chimera.”, I whisper to Mkoll.
“ Why?”, he asks.
Urgently I tell Mkoll why my squad had come to be on this planet. Then I tell him about our mission and what would happen if we succeeded. He eagerly agrees when I ask him for help on my mission.
Getting into the chimera's cargo hold had been easy, the hard part was getting out. When they finally stopped and the cargo door opened, nobody was at the door. Muffled voices are coming from the cockpit of the chimera. Mkoll and I slowly creep out of the cargo hold and into an empty docking bay used to receive shipments from ground trucks.
“ This way.”, Alaric says, motioning Mkoll to follow through a nearby doorway.
“ We should split up and meet at the generator, okay?”, Mkoll said.
“Deal.” I say. Continuing on, I make good time to the generator room. As I silently step into the generator room, I am surprised that there are no guards.
“ Hello there.”, says a deep and rumbly voice. I spin around, looking for the source of the mysterious voice.
“ Who's there?”, I said warily.
“ Your savior.”, the voice says. There's a flapping noise and I spin to face it. Standing in front of me is a wicked, scar faced man wearing a deep red cloak.
“ Inquisitor Tarrin.”, I say with disgust. Inquisitor Tarrin is a traitor to mankind, responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent people and siding with the enemy...The forces of chaos.
“ And you are?”, he asks. I remain quiet in defiance.
“ No matter, I do not need your name to kill you.”, he says with a throaty chuckle. Even with all my enhancements, I was no match for Tarrin's power sword, and plasma pistol. Tarrin also has numerous bionic augmentations. The plasma pistol and power sword would void my armor, and the bionic augmentations would make Tarrin extremely tough, strong, and fast. But I could not give in to the enemy. I will fight to my very last breath. TTTHHWWAAACCK! “ What was that!”, I think. And then he realized what it was. A dart was sticking out of the side of Tarrin's neck! Tarrin reached for his neck...And keeled over. I stood, amazed...Until I realized it might have been another opponent, a third party, who would kill me if I wasn't careful.
“ Who's there?”, I ask.
“ Just me space marine.”, said Scout Sargent Mkoll.
“ Where the heck have you been?”
“ Finding us a ride out of here,”, Mkoll answered, “ I found an old cargo transport in the hanger.”
“ Well, what are we waiting for, let's get out of here.”, Alaric says, “ Just let me set the demolition charges on the generator before we go.”
As we flew back to the main spaceship for debriefing, the main assault force pushed in and took the city from enemy hands, establishing a foothold on the planet. Within fifteen days half the planet had been conquered. Another ten and the planet was ours. Meanwhile Mkoll and I were awarded generously. He retired to a luxury planet while I was promoted to sargeant for my leadership skills. I will continue to fight against the enemies of mankind for as long as I shall live.
Peace out
