Subject: When to get another Warcaster?

Hacking Shang Jí

Hi all, as a new comer to both the forums and Warmachine I need a little help.
I started a Cryx army a couple of months ago and am intending to make additions as and when I paint what I've got!
So far I have;
WARWITCH DENEGHRA
BONEJACK DEFILER
BONEJACK DEATHRIPPER
BONEJACK DEATHRIPPER
SLAYER
REAPER/SLAYER/CORRUPTER (Plastic kit magnetised)
And on its way is a BONEJACK STALKER.
Anyway back to my question, when should I think about adding in a second Warcaster?
I'm not a big fan of the 'living' units and so intend to get another 5 or 6 jacks before adding units! Is this wise?

If I remember rightly, the book suggests that you only get into "two Warcasters per player" territory when you hit 100 points a side game. So, if you get another warcaster, you're unlikely to be fielding Deneghra and the second Warcaster at the same time for quite a while.
On the other hand - new Warcaster is an easy and quick way of mixing up your list a little. I'd say, if you start getting bored of Deneghra as your Warcaster, grab a new one. They're relatively cheap ££-wise, and it's nice to have the options.

Searforge Commission -- 50pts
Trollbloods -- 50pts
Imperial Guard -- 2000pts-ish

100pts! Crikey! Not sure i'll be looking to get that many, not for a while yet anyway. But yeah I think I will have to get another just for new tactics/options. But doesn't the control area become rather crowded with that many jacks? Then again I suppose thats why you have units and solos! Anyway cheers for the info.

Get another caster(s) the moment you feel that you want to try some other playing style. It's nothing wrong with playing the same caster over and over again as long as it gives you fun.

jack heavy? Mortenbra and epic Skarre both really like jacks, as does the witch coven, who can really use those thre arc nodes and bost those slayers up to really good levels with infernal machine.

Deneghra in my experience is very good as support, if you want to debuff the enemy. As a guy who recently started Cryx myself, I would recommend Asphyxious as your next caster. He operates similar to Denny, but where she debuffs, he hits with damage spells instead. I also recommend playing some games on Vassal; great way to see what you like using or not/test strategies.

Vassal is an online game engine with which you can play variouys tabletop/board games. Vassal is the name of the Engine, and you load specific modules on it to play the game you want. It's entirely free as well, and overall is a wonderful resource for a Warmachine player. If you're interested in checking it out (I highly recommend this) then go to www.vassalengine.org, download the engine, then that same site has a list of module links. Find the one called Warmachine and Hordes. Once you have that, open up Vassal, load the module, and ask someone to show you how to use it.

I generally get all the warcasters unless I don't like them for some reason 'cause it's nice to change the way your army plays by switching out a model.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)

Just remember, at steam roller events you are required to bring 2 army lists.
You don't actually have to have the second army, but you do need the list.
Might as well take advantage of being able to choose between 2 lists.

Steamroller does not Require you to bring two lists, it just allows it.

Ah, but GW shut that module down. Yes, it's probably still available in the seedier corners of the internet (so basically anywhere... ) but it won't be getting official updates anymore. I'm not sure if there ever was a WHFB module but if there was it was obviously shut down as well.

Denny tends to be infantry friendly. Morty is an excellent jack caster and her tier adds to that. For someone who is collecting jacks, you may want to take a look at her. e-Gaspy needs infantry, especially Soulhunters for maximum utility. p-Gaspy is much better and with a few arcnodes, a real threat to any opposing caster. p&e Skarre are very good. I have run both in mangled metal with some success. The witch coven can really be a killer but they can take a while to learn how to play properly. However, if you take them and go jack heavy, do take some sirens or use DJ or Seether. DJ has a tendency to focus players' attention.
With Morty I always take Leviathan as he really benefits from her ability. She comes with Deryliss, so you get a free spell. The WSC can be useful with her too. I think if I wanted to run a large jack heavy force than this is the caster I would take.
I should point out that in tournaments, I often bring the main force and then just vary one or two models and the caster to provide 2 lists. This is, often as not, to make the points fit or because of the casters ability. In all cases the majority of the points are the same. This makes set up easy as well as transport. It also means that my familiarity with the pieces will ease play. This is not the optimum approach but it makes playing in Steam Roller events rather easy. I take two casters because some opponents really shut down magic or are better at board control. E-Denny in some objective games is a real winner, if the opponent is unprepared.
