I recently purchased a PS3 Slim and was wondering what suggestions people have as far as games or blu-rays go. I play different genres including sports and for movies I enjoy different genres as well. ...well maybe you could say I have more leanings towards sci-fi.

Games: Dead Space, Resistance, Assasssins Creed, Borderlands. That's if you want Sci-fi.

Movies: Predator.

Unless you have an awesome sound system your not going to notice any real change from older movies over the natural upconverting the blu-ray player can do. Dead Space, both Killzone games, Borderlands, and Fallout 3 are good sci-fi games. Look around on gamestop's site and abuse a discount trial of gamefly. IGN is a good source for reviews on games.

Actually I thought I'd ask on Dakka so I could get some discussion going.

I agree with rocklord to a point, rent from a store so you don't have to wait for games to come in the mail. Also, with the wonderful anti-scratch layer put on most of the PS3 game disks, don't be afraid of used games.

Watch out for retail clearance and sales (ie, Toys R Us is having a 25% off of all clearance items and a lot of games went on clearance). Retailers are amazing when it comes to this and my results don't lie, I got Oblivion and FEAR for 10 bucks each. It just matters on where you look. Check retailers before Gamestop.

I just wanted to get a feel for what fellow dakkites might be playing on the PS3... I actually have a membership to GameFly that I could reinstate. I mostly just wanted to see what people might be playing.

EA's The Orange Box is a brilliant value collection including Team Fortress 2 (online team FPS), Portal (puzzle adventure) and two episodes of Half Life (SF FPS adventure).

There's a ton of sports. If you want something a bit different, Everybody's Golf and Everybody's Tennis are nice playing games which don't take things too seriously. Called Hot Shots Golf in the US.

Recently I have been playing a lot of Fat Princess.

I have a PS3 and my top rated games are: Heavy Rain, God of War 3, MAG, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, SOCOM: Confrontation, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous

Got orange box for 10 bucks too.

LBP is now a good bargain as GOTY edition is out. As far as Heavy Rain and God of War 3 are concerned I would wait until they get bargain binned. Not because they're bad, but because the story isn't going to change just because you got it for 30 bucks instead of 60.

cool beans. I didn't realize orange box was on the PS3... does TF2 have heavy usage online? Can you play against PC players?

Im fairly certain you cant play against PC users on TF2. But you can always find a game or 5 on their servers. Its pretty fun, I bought the Orange box because everyone here told me too (Im a slave to peer pressure ) And Im hooked on the damn game. I beat Portal, and then tried TF2, Ill be honest, I havnt touched half life yet and Ive had the game for a couple months now


And Fallout3 is simply amazing. That was the first game I bought on the ps3 and it stole my life. Simply awesome game.

I forgot about portal... I actually have the orange box for the PC but i'm running out of HDD space to install all of it so Orange Box for the PS3 sounds tempting. Fallout 3 I have on the PC but its the same deal as with the Orange Box... I'm running out of space so possibly the GOTY edition is going to possibly see space on my gamefly queue.

Gotta go where the bargains are. If you can suffer the crying kids and maybe lackluster service, you can make out like a bandit.

I got Soul Calibur on the PSP for $22.00, Chronicle of Riddick on PS3 for $7.00 and a gamecube for $20.00.
