i know there has been alot of complaining about gw dropping the heats and final style tourny. but latest news is each tourny is only 5 games. at cost of food at event that works out at £10 per game. do they want people at tournys any more.

Well, in Germany the ToS tourney in Fantasy requires qualification.
There will be local tournies in each hobby store at Juli 17,
the winner will qualify for the ToS to be held in Oct or Sept, not sure.
Moreover, there will be about 10 wild card participants, first come first served.
Same in Ingeland?

Big whoop.
It works both ways as I see it. It saves money on two lots of hotels and petrol/train fare to the heats and finals.
But £50 to just the one event (5 games???) is a bit steep is that is correct.
Any word on the points and rules for the tourney???

Interesting. We're still waiting for the Throne of Skulls tourney set up to be released in the U.S. this summer.

response to radiohazard. 40k is 1500pt fantasy 2000pt no addition rules as of yet assume new warhammer rulebook will have tourny style rules in. full price for tickets is £55 i was estimating that with quaulity of food over 2 days they can only afford £5

I used to work at bugmans.
The amount they buy the food from wholesalers for is minute. You get an awesome meal at the tourneys.

2004. The canteen stuff isn't bad. Or wasn't at least when I was there.

This was the same here at the ToS 40k event in April, you pay you play.
However, for the ToS Fantasy event here in Sept/Oct, they require a qualification (winner of tournaments in hobby stores, to be held at July 17, plus 10 wild cards to be ordered from GW, first come first served).
Pretty strange if you ask me.

not been anything like that in Britain. unfortunately over here its becoming a big problem getting games at stores, they are doing fewer hours most only open 5 days when before doing 7. we also tend to get alot of other european gamers at our gt so if they did do qualifier's before tournys can see it upsetting them.

I'm really curious to see how the hobby stores will organize the qualification tournaments to be held at Juli 17.
The stores are usually so small that only two or three normal boards fit in there.
Maybe this becomes a self-goal.

yeah it sounds like gw are really making it hard to run tournys when it should be a peace of cake. you will have to keep in touch so we can see the differences in our respective gw organisation. why they have to do things different in the first place is beyond me.

Wonder if the Vegas Invitational will use these rules. Seemed like there was an annoucement regarding Throne of Skulls being the new format or some such.

Centrally I think Warpstorm at Maelstrom games will attract a lot of players, and more will look at trying to get to Battle of the Chumps. And I imagine Open War will sell out even more quickly (40k went in 2 days for most recent one).
The Bristol Vanguard tournaments comes highly recommended, but I'm on the other side of the country so unfortunately they aren't practical. Their scenery collection looks lovely. In my head Bristol is close to Birmingham.
I'm planning on attending Starsmash (at Colours, Newbury), Warfare (Reading) and Open War (although that is for the Epic: Armageddon). I'm playing in the ETC so can't really afford to induge in Nottingham trips this year anyway.
