Today some of the guys at the local club played another test game of one of my Rhodesian scenarios. This one was the Fireforce action scenario that I've been dying to play. I need to tinker with the scenario a bit before finalizing it (we have another gamed planned for the 5th) so I'm not going to write up a full narative report as I did with the British South African Police game a couple of weeks ago. I'll take the time to type one up after that game.
The Cliff's Notes version is that it was a bad day to be a member of ZANLA. The baddies suffered a pretty good smashing at the hands of the Rhodesian Light Infantry. The end result was that the terrorists had over 20 casualties and at least that many removed from the table after "bombshelling". (dispursing and routing from the table) and the RLI only lost five men. (admittedly one was the Fireforce commander who was killed in the K-car by a stray AK-47 bullet!)
The "man" of the match had to be the Lynx ground attack aircraft that accounted for many of the enemy casualites with it's load of white phosorous rockets, machineguns, and frantan (locally produced napalm).
We did learn quite a bit from the playtest and I think with one slight change to the scenario it will make a great game. With four helicopters and a ground attack plane buzzing around it's certainly a very visually impressive game and I plan on running the finalized scenario at the Millinnium Con gaming convention this year.
Anyway, want to see the pics? Here you go!
A shot from the Rhodesian "K-Car" gunship/command chopper looking toward the enemy in the villiage.
Another angle of the same scene. The K-Car and ZANLA lurking in the bush!
The lynx coming in for it's attack run on enemy troops that the K-car has spotted.
Uh oh! That's going to leave a mark! The aftermath of the napalm strike by the Lynx. (8 dead terrorists!)
Another view of the same scene with the K-car and one of the G-Car transports in view.
And finally a bird's eye view of one of the G-cars leaving the scene to collect second wave troops. Can you spot the Rhodesians in the bush below? See? Camouflage works on miniatures too!
Thanks to Dave B (one of the local club members and playtester) for the great photos and photoshop retouching!
