Hello, just starting hordes and going with the Circle of Orobos, is there anything in particular I should look for or avoid?

Get the battlebox.

Also, new edition of Hordes, MkII is coming out this month.

Any models you buy for the next 6 months or so will probably have the wrong cards in them.
If you are sure you want Circle, pick up the card deck.

After you get the box and play a few games, decide what kind of thing you want to add to your force and take it up to 25pts.
Most of the Battleboxes are around 15pts.

Ask yourself: Do you want a shooty unit? More Beasts? Mobility? A heavy hitter? These questions should guide you toward a few choices.

I chose Trollbloods, got the battlebox. I liked the look of the Dire Troll Mauler, and it seemed good in game, so I bought it.
I buy based on looks and what the unit does. I decide if the loss of power is worth the model to me.
At least if the models look good to me, I am mroe enclined to use them.

Bam, said the lady!

WM/Hordes isn't as centered on having the 'power' units/armies like 40k can be. Its balanced better so even sub-optimal units wont be a major handicap if you play them well.

So, play what you like, try to find some synergistic combos.

You can also watch games on Vassal- test play stuff like that. Might give you a better idea of what will mesh well with your preferences and play style.

Big thing with hordes is synergie within the faction, try and get units and beasts that work well together or at least work well with your warlock of choice.
As an example of what I am talking about say your warlock has a good spell to boost armor but it lowers defense, that kind of spell does more for a unit or warbeast that already has a high armor stat.
Raising the armor on a low armor unit probably won't matter but taking a model really high can really mess with your opponents plans sometimes.

I am the whitekong.
