Thought I would write this up while it is fresh in my mind. I was playing my Cryx against a Trollkin army. Lists:
eAsphyxious +6
Nightwretch 4
Nightwretch 4
Deathjack 12
6x Bane Knights 6
Withershadow Combine 5
Tartarus 4
Pistol Wraith 3
Warwitch Siren 2
Necrotech 1
eHoarluk +6
Mulg 12
Dire Troll Mauler 9
Troll Axer 6
Troll Bouncer 5
6x Kriel Warriors 4
Fell Caller Hero 3
(The solo that lowers spell costs by 1) 2
Deployment
He deployed first, placing all of his beasts in front of Hoarluk toward the centre of the board with his Warriors and Hero to their right. A refused flank? Odd... I decided to see if I could pull his army apart. I placed my Knights accross from all the beasts, with Deathjack, the Combine and a Siren on the left edge and the remainder to their right. My goal here was to attempt to draw away parts of his army and take them apart like that. I have the ability to damage and definitely have the numbers in this game.
Turn 1
-Basically, he cautiously moves everything up pretty much straight forward. Some spells happen, but I ignored them =/
-I toss a focus onto each of my bonechickens so that I can run them forward. My left and right flanks all run to form a pincer. Hellbound goes up and I put down a caustic mist in front of his warbeasts to be annoying. My Bane Knights move into their famous 'Flying V' acccompanied by a "quack... Quack... QUACK!" cheer. I enjoy making my opponents think I don't take the game seriously. The reason for this formation is it puts one of them out in range should they get charged, but doesn't make it really clear that this is what I am doing (as opposed to your whole unit separate with one guy sticking off 6" away). I am starting to try to draw him out.
Turn 2
-Finally we are close enough for some action. He tries to hide his Warriors from an imminent Death Jack-ing by moving them mostly behind a building and out of charge range. His Bouncer moves toward his warriors to support them. His other warbeasts cautiously move forward again, taking (and generally ignoring) the Caustic Mist. This will come back to haunt him turn 4!
-Well, his Knights had to clump up to hide from Deathjack. I run my left-side Nightwretch into their faces and fire a Death Knell which ends up POW 15 onto them (that can't scatter). Two die and one sits down for a nap. Deathjack and the Warwitch sprint up the side putting my heavy into b2b with two warriors (they will die if they move away). Gaspy starts moving around the centre counter-clockwise to get away from the mess that will begin in the middle. The Pistol Wraith manages to Death Chill his Warlock, which is awesome. No real damage and he will regen it anyaway, but this is good. The Necrotech and Bane Knights move into the way and I end my turn.
Turn 3
-Warriors decide to charge and attack Deathjack. They do no damage. The Bouncer rushes and my Death Knell chicken and beats it down to two Cortex Boxes. The Morg and the Dire Troll finally rush my Bane Knights and the Axer eats my Necrotech. One Knight dies, and this will deny me a charge with them next turn. Wow, my Pistol Wraith got ignored after shooting the Warlock.
-Tartarus and the Knights move into combat. They put some decent damage onto the Dire Troll and a little onto Mulg. The Siren seduces the one warrior out of b2b with Deathjack into combat with him. He turns on his lawnmower and gets them all but one who managed three tough tests. Oh well, three souls for next turn. The Combine throw some spells at the Bouncer and put a little damage on him. I arc Parasite onto the Warlock.
Turn 4
-Revenge time on my Bane Knights. The Dire Troll tramples through and kills two and gets real close to my Warcaster. His charge, however got him free-struck by one of the Knights who did all but one damage to him. Then we remembered he still had corrosion on him and dies. Mulg kills the rest. His Bouncer leaves to deal with my right-side Nightwretch that has managed to get behind the Warlock. I think he is now realizing that he has almost no army left.
-Time to try for an assassination. I make a mistake and let Hellbound drop because I thought this was locked up and the Combine were goofing off on the other side of the board by now. I decide to try some shooting on him first just to see if I can get an extra box or two. The Pistol Wraith his him, but then he shows me that Mulg gets to move as a result of a hit on him (also, most of his army had bounce on them, generally). Okay, new plan: Feat to kill everything except the Warlock. I put Parasite onto Mulg, dropping it off Hoarluk, and feat. Tartarus and one or two Knights manage to kill him outright, and a couple more manage to reach Hoarluk anyway and put damage on him that he transfers off. Two more Knights rush the Axer and put some damage on him.
Turn 5
-So, he feats and manages to get the Axer to charge Asphyxious from a huge distance away (I thought I was safe), and drops half his health, so a free strike will kill him.
-At this point, it is done. I am shooting and arcing damage from all over the place, and he actually ran out of places to transfer damage from my mostly intact army. 4d6 - 0 damage from my Deathjack seals the deal.
Final Thoughts: I know my army is pretty good, but obviously not optimized; it is limited by the models I was able to buy in stores and the rest is on order. I have a thread a bit down about how I plan to run this list at 50 points (a tournament is running in October). Sorry there are no pictures (future ones will), but I wanted to highlight the use of movement and how spells and powers don't matter if you can outmanoeuvre your opponent. This is generally a principle accross all wargames that I hope a lot more people could grasp onto. Find ways to bait your opponent. I kept a functioning Pistol Wraith the entire game because I provide targets that were just a little more enticing. When my bonejacks have served their purpose, they are discarded to gain position. This is a great way to get use out of units that don't have a weapon or ability that is useful that turn or ever.
My opponent had a good laugh when he saw how easily my plan could be changed, just killing Mulg and getting damage onto others when the Warlock was blocked. Heck, Tartarus still managed a Thresher on Hoarluk on his ghost charge too.
I am brand new to this game (this was my third game, and first against Hordes at all), so I would gladly take all feedback. Good or bad, bring it on. Thanks!

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I feel you pain, now we can both weep together and just reserve ourselves to using them 'as intended' or with the Witch Coven tier list.
/sigh...

Hi, nice win...
small question though. You describe him walking through a caustic mist. that does 1 pt of corrosiondamage. but I do not think it causes the continues effect corrosion.
I have no book near me at the moment, so I don't know for 100%... I also do not think the endgame would change, just the path to get there in a small way.. (you would probably have the wraith shoot the troll then...

Ravurion: You are absolutely correct. We are both pretty green players, and I guess that is just one of those mistakes. As an example of wonky play, I was using Cankerworm as an Arcnode my very first game simply because that Stealth symbol looked almost the same. My friend didn't call me on it, but I noticed it myself the next day when I was reading through my book and let him know.
In the end, it was very little effect other than the single damage, as they just regenerated the damage that went on anyway.
The Pistol Wraith was an absolute all-star that game. Death Chilled the warlock at a key point, took out a solo when the opportunity arose and was not even targetted. I am eager to get two into my 50 points list. Many think they are over-costed but I think that it just fits my playstyle much better than Warwitch Sirens (at least with this Caster).

I also like them as denial pieces. Death chill can't be shaken. Get it on a jack and you practically have taken it out for a turn (if it is not in combat already).
I use them often against a Khador opponent who brings 2 jacks. I bring 2 wraiths. Look who will be standing still a lot

The only real problem with them is that incorporeal dissipates if you attack, so against a learned opponent you will typically only get one turn of shooting with it before it's wiped out. For those 3 points you could take 6 mcthralls, or even 9 scrap thralls.

use forests young padawan. They have to hit def 16 then. Most armys have to dedicate a big part of their resources to guarantee a kill then (4 to 6 man CRA, or a boosted magic attack or otherwise boosted attack). Oftentimes that means I have a chance to get something I could not get before and kill it in the next turn...
This is something the thralls (both versions) can't do. they get hit fast and 1 hit is enough to take them out.
The other choice is to get a bigger threat closer. If they have a jack standing still and a slayer get's ready for a charge next round he will think twice aboutwhat the better target is. add a few rippers for extra magic angles and as slammers next turn and the opponent will have a hard choice.
this is the way out faction works IMHO, and has worked. I set up multiple kill-vectors and the opponent takes out 1 or 2. I then let the 3rd and 4th fly in...

I just looked all over their FAQ and errata and I didn't see anything about large basses not being able to be brought back. Can you point it out where it is? Cause my army is based around that tactic so it would really mess things up for me!!!

In general bass players are smarter |

It says right in there something along the lines of: "...may bring back any faction small or medium based warrior models..."
